Wheels have been ordered, two possibly three sets to choose from ;)

If it was me I would try and find some SH wheels and failing all other attempts to fit them use a hornet gearbox to accommodate them. I just don't think it will look nearly as good without the orange wheels but that means firstly finding some and secondly fitting them. Have you got some decals lined up now?

I know what you mean but the main brief I gave myself was the Super Hornet II needed to be what Tamiya would produce as an SHII today, which is really what the RF is, thus the DT01 box is retained otherwise I may as well make a replica. Hope that makes sense :blink::lol::lol::lol:

Don't worry I'm sure wheel desires will be met with my possible outcomes ^_^

Modern wheels will look OK but One thing that make the SH look so cool i the colour scheme. Are there any modern wheels in that colour or paints? I def need to get my self a SH

Loving your material Woodstock, wish I had a neat and tidy work bench like yours, whenever I'm working on something I have to resort to a part that may be under the bed, or a screw that may be in the cupboard under the stairs or on the wardrobe, or a tool that's in the shed. I spend more time looking for things than doing!

Keep it up

I think we are safe on most counts here ;););)B)

Thanks Reilluor, I know what you mean with spending too much time trying to find stuff, that's why I get myself organised. At the moment I work on my dinning room table but this is sort of long term temporary until around spring time when it heats up a bit. I will be getting a new combi condenser boiler, which means no water tanks in the den, which in turn means purpose built hobby bench B) B) B)

Just a quick update today, got my drivers and sport lamps primed today for both the Super Hornet and Super Hornet II :)

First off made myself a jig/stand for the spots out of a Benecol tub lid and 4 20mm screws ;)

The rest was stuck to my trusty piece of cardboard

Primed!

Got my Tamico order home yesterday with some much needed supplies for the Super Hornet II.

Got a set of G-Made shocks which I put together last night. So far I am really pleased with them, they look great and work smoothly with a easily adjustable preload ring on the spring.

The instructions are nice, clear and intuitive

One of the many things I like with these sets is the amount of oil you get, look with the left overs I have got a whole new bottle :D

Not like the Tamiya oil we get where every time you think, will it, will it, will it, and there's just enough. Or is that just me then

shii_148.jpg

Finished full set of shocker for the use of

shii_149.jpg

I didn't think they would fit first of all, as they are a little chunky, but they did perfectly

shii_150.jpg

Front end done :D

shii_151.jpg

shii_152.jpg

Rear end done

shii_153.jpg

All finished. I didn't have time last night to have a good go over ride heights etc.

Was ment to have a full day on Tamiya stuff today but was woken up early in the morning to the sound of water rushing past us only to be greeted by a flash flood which has gone through the gardens and my garage

So have been cleaning up, and now need to catch up on a bit of kip -_-

Looking great - you might need to remove the bump stops to increase the available stroke on the shocks - otherwise they'll be bottoming out and putting all the impact forces into the uprights on the plastic chassis.

Cheers bud ;)

Yes I think so as well certainly on the front as the travel is limited, they are rather trick though :D

That looks great! You certainly are putting the 'Super' into Super Hornet II!

Glad you like it, bearing in mind you're the instigator of this project ;)

Wow those shocks are really nice, will deffo have to keep them in mind. Where did you get them from?

Also how are you taking photos when both hands are in the photo?

maybe he has a mutant arm. that might explain the speed Wood5tock is getting through his builds.

I don't think he sleeps, look at some of his post times :P

Between working and spending the rest of my life on here I don't seem to get time to build anything

Those shocks look superb, much nicer then the Ansman ones I have on mine. You'll have to let us know how well they perform, might have to upgrade again!

Cheers mate, I will keep you all posted

I initially wanted to get them from Fusion along with some other stuff but they didn't have any in stock (and still don't) so looked up G-Made dealers and Tamico popped up, and we all know what that means 'BIG ORDERS' ;)

Looking good matey, loving those shocks! :)

Actually I balance the camera on the end of my... No stop it

I use my table top tripod a Manfrotto Pixi, yours from eBay for under £20 delivered. I then stick my little compact camera on top and pop the shutter on the timer ;)

And if anyones intrested I'm surrounded by these bad boys, I have found my photography lamps are not only great for photos (duh!) but as they are daylight balanced they are perfect for lighting up my work area.

As they are Cool Lites, I don't fry underneath them and they don't rack up the leccy bill :D

that's a very nice set up you have. :)

I like to sit on the couch with a small table to work on, that way I get exercise as well.

this is achieved by dropping screws, washers and nuts down the side of the couch then having to get up to find it again.

with 2 kids I have lost my man cave and the use of the dinning table so I have to improvise a lot.

this summer I will get the shed sorted out and get a place I can call home again.

I'll make a note of that, cheers Percymon

I just wanted an excuse to do another Tamico order, not that I need much of an excuse :lol::lol:;)

Modified the front suspension scollops on the body shell today, as you may remember when I first started putting the car together I found the strengthening pieces introduced to the top mounts necessitated Tamiya to re-model the scollops to allow adequate clearance.

shii_77.jpg

I found 12.5mm from the inside of the top where it meets the body to be the magic number so this was measured and masking tape used to show the area that needed to be removed

shii_155.jpg

shii_157.jpg

Then out with my Dremel look-alike by Draper and a fresh cutting disc

shii_158.jpg

shii_159.jpg

A quick offer up shows a little more needs to come off the sides

shii_160.jpg

Perfect! :D

shii_161.jpg

All the rough edges removed and a full fit with 'R-Clips' reveals the suspension towers have now got all the clearance they need ;)

shii_162.jpg

And finally the whole shell gets flatted back with 3M Scotch Brite. then fully de-greased, washed and put into the 'purpose built' Tamiya drying cabinet. Otherwise known as the cupboard my boiler lives in :lol::lol:

shii_163.jpg

Next up planning the paint job and graphics ;)
