I've read that fitting tyre foams in the rear tyres helps. Not tried it myself but you can get ready made foams for crawlers, the 2.2 size should fit the WW2 wheels nicely. I guess it helps the tyre hold it's shape so it will track straighter when it's just up on its rear wheels.

I love 1/6 accessories :D (goggles)

Okay, goggles, axe and shovel came today. Axe fit perfect but the shovel wasn't cooperating (broke the cheap metal twice and had to reglue). I'm okay with the positioning even if it isn't perfect. 1/6 scale olive drab straps used to secure it to the body. Fire extinguisher done also.

Oh, yeah, had to mud-splatter the spare too :P Painted in the rubbers (see below) for the windscreen, attached it to the rollcage and painted all the screws (not shown)

EDIT: I love "Wheeler Dealers", you guys have one of my favorite shows there in the UK.

Heh, took a lot of interwebs searching to find "period correct" goggles. Sheesh, five years ago they were a plenty :(

Lots of other stuff done tonight that I did after I took these photos:

All screws painted in flat black, all lights now mounted and glued in, canvas top hot glued at the seams and looks fantastic :) body dull-coated. And bumper numbers painted on.

Lots more tomorrow night

Looking forward to the pics mate. I'm gonna have to search through the remains of my 1/6 figure stuff and see what I can use. Until now I'd assumed it would be too big.

Love those goggles, confirms my thoughts on Willy having a 1/6 head!

Wheeler Dealers is a great show, Mike Brewer is a character for sure. Did you catch the last series 'Wheeler Dealers Trading Up'?

I did! My boys watch it with me and love watching Ed wrench on the cars. Radio, ESC, whip antenna are coming today in the mail so more to do tonight.

Also used a technique on the whoopie light mount that I've never used before. Taking PVA glue (white glue), I squeezed out small droplets around the mount, once dried and painted they simulated rivets. Heh, pretty nifty :)

I loved Wheeler Dealers although I probably watched it too much and got a bit tired of it. My favourite was the mini monster truck makeover they did on a Suzuki SJ, great stuff. Now I'm riveted to Fast n Loud which is effectively the same concept x10 :)

The goggles are perfect and the tiger is just superb, you have serious skills!

Can I make a request? Please fill the back of the fuel can. It's a relatively simple job but it makes quite a difference. I know it'll be at least partly hidden by the canvas top but everything else is such a top quality job it seems a shame to not do it.

Impatiently awaiting the next update :D

Hello IBIFTKH (Rob)

That's exactly what I was going to say.... it's such a stunning WW body, but you're this is vote number 2 for filling in the fuel can.. :)

As always looking forward to the next update....

Argggghhh....I was hoping no one would notice. :P Yep, I'll do it Rob. Like I said, I have plenty of sheet styrene and can make the pattern tonight after I get all this new kit installed this evening.

I took the artistic liberty and painted the bumper numbers on the fender instead of the actual bumper (since there isn't any room). On the right fender is: "2ID 1-15" on the left fender is: "HQ-6" <---- which is the Commander's Jeep.

Aerial will get installed tonight hopefully. I cut off the top of a single block Lego and will glue that to the mount and paint OD. I'll probably snip the length of the wire and use some GW "Green Stuff" to sculpt an antenna ball. Drill out a mount, get some string and fabricate a tie-down for the antenna.

Anyone have any tips to getting paint to stick to wires?

As I have never heard of Fast n Loud - I assume that they are Sky only?

Nope, it's on the Discovery Channel Weds evening and then gets repeated all week!

Ditto on filling in the fuel can, ruins the look with it empty.

All ye can rest easily, the jerry can has been filled :P

Got the new FlySky radio and Tamiya ESC installed and everything tidied up with zip ties. Filled in the Jerry Can, painted, dull-coated and mounted. New static antenna mounted and pseudo painted. Tomorrow the new decals will be here to finish the gauges and "US Army" on the hood. On Friday, the headlamp lenses should be here along with the other kit.

Yeah, it's a proper restoration but it ain't Willy :)

Always wondered how hard it would be to fit a repro Willis Jeep body onto a modern 4x4 chassis with oversized tyres to get that classic Wild Willy look.

More great work on this epic build...

How did you create those rivet heads on the aerial/light mount..?

Dare I say it ;) are you going to carry the line of the strap over the back of the jerry can..

Crispy the Willy look is actually quite easy to do 1:1 . There is / was a firm making Jago Jeeps . Fiberglass Kit car . Mount that on a Suzuki SJ frame and fit oversize wheels and you have a very reasonable look a like . I've seen this done loads of times at the 4x4 shows here in Peterborough at the East Of England Showground . Only 1/2 mile from home so we visit quite a bit .

I hope your kids never get a hold of this... :D 2 months worth of work can go down the toilet in 5 seconds :P Very nice work! We need to find a way to tidy up the wires with how well detailed and thought out the rest of the Jeep is.
