Not sure if this has been done before but I thought it might be fun to start a thread on what we do for a job - be interesting to see if there's any kind of common thread amongst us Tamiya folk regarding work like engineering or design etc.

I'll start things off - I'm a video games 3D artist responsible for level construction and game-play implementation and I work for one of the UK's largest developers.

What do you do..?

I work for a Volkswagen/Audi main dealer as a Parts advisor, but I trained to be a mechanic. I decided looking up and giving out parts is a lot cleaner and easier than crawling underneath a car getting covered in oil and dirt...

I worked as a 'Car Driver' for Jaguar Cars UK LTD for 6 years, fantastic job driving cars all day everyday but the money wasn't that good.

Now work as a Mechanical/Electrical Engineer on Nightshift at First Bus World Headquarters in Aberdeen. Great job, love it and fantastic pay/benefits.

Only my 3rd ever Job, as I joined the RAF when I left school as an Airframe Engineer.

I've been a house wife (or husband if it bothers you) for almost 4 years now so basically I work for food and board :)

Priory to that I worked for a vehicle breakdown assistance provider called Mondial in their call centre. Mostly boring, repetitive drudgery (chriss76 & gravetxt-1 I feel your pain brothers) but my work colleagues were great and we had quite a few paid for jollies out at different car manufactures, driving top of the range Mercs and Landrovers... although my fav was a full day of off road training with Suzukis Rhino club, still can't believe they paid me to have that much fun :)

Prior to that I was a motorcycle courier which was fun but also the closet I've come to death on a daily basis.

It does seem like already a few of us have motor industry links?

Another ex-mechanic here.

These days I work part-time for a small training company working with blind and visually-impaired adults. I love it, it's not well-paid but I meet and work with some amazing people. I work part-time because I'm disabled due to a back/spinal injury.

My main job is being a full-time (single) dad to my three daughters :)

Yet another ex-mechanic here, although I'm still 'stuck' in the motor trade, am currently an Aftersales Manager in a Toyota dealer.

Seems to be a common trend of techy type bods so far.

Odd jobs for me, but right now I am in school and so spend my time learning what it takes to be a practicing Civil Engineer.

I admit that Tamiya has done a fantastic job of keeping me interested in my studies, even though the applicable engineering is very different.

25 years in the British Army, started driving trucks, progressed to an instructor then examiner, also did radio communications and taught different things here and there. Finished last year and now work for Openreach as a customer service field engineer, climbing telegraph poles, working in manholes and fixing phone lines.

Got a wife, a 10 year old son and a 7 year old daughter taking up most of my spare time now.

Kids love my RC stuff, wife thinks it's childish.

I'm an electronics technician at an industrial gas detection company called Opera, we manufacture all sorts of gas detectors ranging from carbon monoxide to refrigerant gases. Also work on Fridays at another place where they manufacture medical Equipment, I'm currently their head tech.

Also have a lot of background in mechanics, though I never studied in that field. Currently restoring an 84 Mazda RX-7, also rebuilding the engine in ye old faithful 97 Toyota Tercel (called Starlet overseas), bought new and now at 528000km. A few years back I also worked as a mechanic for a drift racing team, now that was fun!! Now with 3 kids dont have the time for that anymore :(

Used to be an operations manager for a security company, then a warehouse machine trainer/manager.

But I now have a disabled wife, and one of my daughters is special needs, so I am a full time carer.
