The top resolution this year was to do something about the never ending projects. I don't mean the constantly working on them but the ones with no end in sight. I had 3 that all combined totalled almost 4 years in process. The Rothmans at almost 2 years, the RC4WD crawler at 11 months and the hot rod at 14 months. These were wearing on my nerves since none of them even ran or ran so poorly I wouldn't mess with them.

The Rothmans is closing in on finished, the RC4WD is pretty much there and I can add details whenever I choose, the hot rod (aurora) named for the northern lights is finally running too. The graphics are really close and the chassis is finally able to run. The hot rod and flash photography don't like each other though.

I'm feeling pretty happy about the progress, How are you all doing with your resolutions?

Anyway, here's a picture of the 3 thorns in my side.

Very optimistic to ask about resolutions after the first month! :D

Alas, you are correct in doing so - I for one have had to take a mulligan as some coin has gone into upgrading my vehicles.

The other resolution regarding this hobby is to understand the money side of it. If we go to a movie or sporting event for entertainment it costs at an hourly rate. It varies but the low is around 25 an hour. If I spend 300 on an RC and get 15 hours of entertainment out of building and running it, then it's well spent. I'll never get rich in this hobby but if I understand how and why I spend the money I'm better off. It helps a lot if you go to sell one and understand you already got your moneys worth out of it and anything you get is just lowering the per hour entertainment cost for the next one. :D

Somebody is trying to reassure himself he doesn't have a spending problem ;)

I look at it this way. I want lots of RC things, I buy lots of RC things and I cant stop...that's it ha haaa.

well I have gave up with the normal calendar. I am now working from the Chinese one :)

that now gives me to the 31st of January to buy some bits for various projects.

apart from the top force I was doing ok. I finished a dyna storm restore, painted a terra conqueror body, trf201 body and got my txt-1 running again. not bad for me.

plus I am off to tear down another DS resto!

I've still got to finish the steel king tiger I started a build thread on in 2010, I'm currently working on a half track hull, which still has a couple of months work in it, and the grapple skidder which is waaaaaaayyyyy off being finished, and I've kind of lost the will to do much more on it as it's been quite expensive in cash, and horrendous in time. The trouble is, I've put so much time into the projects I can't stop now. I've also just bought a fresh kit to build, but am already thinking of how to modify it before it's even got here. So for me, I've got 4 fairly time intensive projects on the go. Hopefully I will finish at least 1 this year, hopefully 2. Time will tell :)

One of the problems with the long drawn out projects are the odd little parts. You find that weird little piece to fit some bit of it your not close to doing yet and when you do finally get there it takes days to remember where you put the part, I"m kinda hoping that some time soon everything will be running and have space to display/store all of them. With 3 that didn't seem to be moving forward there wasn't much chance of that. Right now the only one not running is a trailer, but it's at least to a point it can be hooked to a truck and driven around.

The money into the cars doesn't matter, it's the attachment you get from working on them that's hard to deal with. It makes it easier to thin the heard if you can get used to the idea that you've gotten your entertainment out of it and let it move on to someone else. If you bring in another one every week or so then thinning the heard gets to be a big deal.

I guess Ontario has its ice wine...Quebec has its ice golf.
