From what I understand there are 3 versions of the Clodbuster - I'm wandering what ate the main differences between each version?

Thanks

I'm sure there are a lot more differences than my list but..

Original - Chevy bowtie front grille, chevrolet lettering on tailgate, red shocks, axles guards / lower link ties, white wheels

Super Clod Buster - blue shocks, axle guards andlower link ties, 4x4x4 front grille, chrome wheels, large bonnet intake/blower - released twice under different model numbers 58321 & 58518

Metallic Clod Buster 58423 - basically a Super Clod with metallic body set, black axles guards/lower link ties / shocks

All use pogo shocks - only the latest models mentioned or included ESC

And also on same chassis - Bullhead

original 58089 and re-re 58535 are a lot closer to each other than the clod versions

both had red chassis tub, yellow shocks, lower axle ties, axles guards, chrome wheels

The only thing I really know is that original Clods had the Chevy emblem on the front grill, and this is extremely important to collectors. Once Tamiya lost the rights to use Cheverolet, Clod bodies lost the emblem and now have a plain grill. Oh, and the Super Clod is blue!

Edit: Waaaaaaaay more detail in post above, who got in just before me. ;)

In fact basically 4 different versions:

58065 Clod Buster (1987)
58321 Super Clodbuster (2004) (with MSC)
58423 Super Clod Buster Chrome Edition (2008)
58518 Super Clod Buster (2012) (with ESC)

58065 exists in 2 versions, the early Chevy-badged and the later generic.

Differences not (yet) listed in previous posts:

Unlike the original Clod, the Super Clods have the reinforcement plates for the chassis introduced with the Bullhead and not hex chrome plated screws.

Wasn't there a Quick Drive version as well?

Although that probably doesn't count because it's a completely different chassis.

Oh god, I really wish you hadn't shown me that calculator (surreptitiously creates an eBay search to flag the next one that comes up)

My fav part is how some of the numbers are nearly unreadable ;)

For some reason that makes me want it more, it's totally impractical!

So, who can tell me which version this is? I bought this today for my son but after reading the above, i am slightly concerned i got an original vintage one and he will most likely wreck it

Yes, its an original bow tie grilled Clod, with the original red plastic parts and white wheels. You can buy new chrome sprues (but with 4x4x4 front grille) cheaply from jasons store if you want to preserve the old chrome parts. Ditto the red plastics - later versions with blue plastic parts again are pretty cheap sprues if you want to freshen it or preserve the original parts.

You could swap out the pogo shocks for traxxas emaxx items - i got my set of eight from an ebay seller in the US - jrc or jennys rc.

****, thats not good news in this case! I picked it up today for 40 Euro including ESC and a new set of ball bearings. Thought it was a rere or so as it went so cheap. I already showed my son the pics, he was excited. Better close my eyes when he is going to drive it for the first time. He is only 5 years old

DOn't worry - with silver can motors they are hardly fast, and provide he runs it in a large space he's not going to do much damage as there will be little to hit . If you can reduce the throttle travel through EPA settings then you can slow it further.

Just get that 'bow tie' grille off and keep it safe, as Percymon said swap it for a more recent 4x4x4 one then you have the perfect excuse to buy another :D
