I've owned quite a few buggies in the past and I have soft spots for a couple of cars and really didn't like others. My soft spots are for 'The Frog' the 'Hotshot' and the Boomerang my dislikes extend to the TA04 Chassis....I ran mine for about 2hours and then just put it in the loft and forgot about it!

What are your love affairs and pet hates??

I love Tamiya's old Group C cars, absolutely fantastic to run on uneven surfaces with the plastic tub allowing just the right amount of flex, and those scale looks to die for :)

My dislikes/hates , none really, although I am not a fan of the Egress at all.

I find it odd.....my era was late 80's and early 90's and there were far more technical, better looking and better handling cars that the frog, but I always really liked it (even more when I got one) I traded it in for a Lunchbox which was a laugh, but I regretted the trade. I prefer the Hot Shot to say Bigwig although I fully appreciate the Bigwig was a superior machine.

I guess what I'm saying is that Tamiya's are subjective :-) for me anyway

Ooooooo tough one.

I like the build experience of the SRB chassis ( not so much the bodies) as I do the DB-01 and TRF racing chassis.

Egress is pretty nice too mind - so much choice !!

For looks, it has to be the Blackfoot, Sand Scorcher and Lancia 037, for pure unadulterated fun it's the Lunchbox and for engineering the Porsche 959/Celica Gr.B.

I never saw the appeal of buggies but I have warmed to them recently and am now the proud owner of a Hotshot II which I love and will be restored to within an inch of its chassis in due course.

I suppose Buggies appeal to me because you can run them anywhere, the Chassis's need very smooth Tarmac, but I think it goes deeper than that. Cars like the Hotshot appeal to me in some sort of baser instinct way :-)

This is like asking somebody who their favourite child is lol

I love the Hornet........for me the first I ever owned. Like kissing your first girlfriend lol

I loved my old Fox.....I was one of the first to buy it as I think it had been out a week when I bought it in 1985.

Best looking Tamiya for me is probably the Hotshot 2....so I hope it gets re-released! :)

Best to drive so far is my Tamiya Stadium Thunder!

My Stadium Thunder is probably my favourite too - certainly gets the most use.

For looking at, it's the Dyna Blaster. The Dyna Storm was also great fun to drive...

I also enjoyed running a Dark Impact for a while, and the M03 that I traded it for was also top fun.

SRB's are great for building and taking apart again - all that metal.

Lastly, my favourite wheels are the white lightweight wheels off the Vanquish.

Yeah actually, you could never neglect the Hornet from any best list...... I remember doing my paper-round and week after week, month after month all I could think about for the 2hours it took, was the Hornet that I was saving for!

And when I finally got one.....I was the happiest boy alive, even if I did only get to play with it for 20 minutes a day due to it coming with one 7.2v and an overnight charger :-(

(Took another year to save up for a decent quick charger....oh how times have changed)

I could never decide as Tamiya have models on different levels that squeeze my pips.

I am finding myself in more and more juxtapositions in that models that I had not given a second glance to initially suddenly become very desirable. Mainly because of seeing them on here :)

For example the Subaru Brat ;)

What don't you like about the TA04? I also have one but haven't run it yet. Been in the loft for a while as I have quite a few other runners and wanted to save it for later down the road.

I don't know to be honest, I'm not a fan of belt drive, especially such a thin belt I suppose, I don't like that it won't run on my asphalt drive...it's not a bad car, just not to my liking and I think that's the thing with Tamiya, it's all so very emotive ;-)

In my humble opinion the TA04 still is one of the best on-road chassis that Tamiya has brought to the market.

My favourite is always the last one i restored :) but if i look at fun to drive, at the moment definitely my Top Force. I do not know how it will hold up once the Dyna Storm is finished though. In terms of dislike, i am not so much into CC-01. The CC-01 Wrangler was the only NIB i ever bought and i actually never finished it and in the end swapped it for an Avante 2001.

I can't believe we have got this far and nobody has said monster beetle.

I want them the re re it badly, sadly mine is lacking the gold wheels and I bought the wrong red (novice error) when I painted it so it's to bright. A re re would give me another shot at getting it right without spending the earth.... Again.

For me it's the one I lusted after as a kid (and eventually got). In box art red with the blingy gold wheels I just think it looks fab, the black foot and mud blaster have grown on me but I do not think they beat the MB for looks.

So based purely on looks if I could only have one tamiya buggy and one monster truck on my shelf would be an avante and monster beetle. I think the hot shot runs the avante a close second.

The ones in my collects are all my favourite ones and the ones that are not are not. Once you named the favourite one you are going to hurt the rest of their feelings. They all have their individual character and unique in their own ways...unless you have 2 or 3 of the same.

my main Tamiya love has to be the king cab. I have owned it since new and it has been lovingly restored to its former glory with the exception of a body. to get a nib body I could probably get a 1:1 king cab.

my other crush is the dyna storm  that's why I have 4.

my main Tamiya dislike would be the monster beetle. I always wanted one as a kid, when I finally got one I was so disappointed :(

Great thread, should make for some interesting discussions!

Favourites - Wild Willy, Willy's Wheeler, Wild Willy 2 and the various variants. SRB's for the build experience and scale looks, though I prefer the Buggy Champ to the Scorcher. My Tundra, again a great build and a different driving experience. Also a big fan of the TXT-1, awesome truck.

Dislikes - Frog, had one as a kid, so unreliable and getting spares in those days was a nightmare. Not a big fan of the Lunchbox/Pumpkin - they look great but surely it's about time for a chassis upgrade/update?

For me, my favourites in terms of emotional significance are the Hotshot (first Tamiya I ever saw) and Hornet (first Tamiya I ever drove). However, because of how meaningful they are, and how long it took to add them to my collection, I am hesitant to drive them very much for fear of damaging them.

As a result, my favourite runners are my DT01, DF02, WR01 and WT01, all of which seldom break even if driven hard, and are easy, quick and cheap to fix if they do.
