I was looking at these on Hobbyking

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__32025__HobbyKing_X_Car_45A_Brushed_Car_ESC.html

and thought it seemed OK for the price. It is only going in a freinds tt-01 running a silver can so should be fine but my question is what turn motor is equivalent to 45A ? Can I assume a sports tuned will be OK?

The burst current seems high enough? But I take these specs with a bit of salt. Has any body tried these?

Cheers in advance

I have one but not used it yet sorry ( i keep picking up teu-101/4/5s on eBay for not much more money, albeit they don't have the lipo cut off).

Spec wise they look similar to the cheap Chinese ESCs on eBay for under £10. I used one if those with a silver can with no problem, should be ok with a sport tuned too.

Another thread for the same ESC found here:

:)
The low-voltage cutoff at 5.6V makes this ESC unsuitable for LiPo batteries.
Only suitable for LiFe and NiMH/NiCD batteries.

This means there's some false advertising on the Hobbyking website.

One of the posts from that thread:

Great. I've bought three X-Car ESCs from HobbyKing now (1 brushless, 2 brushed) and two of them have been faulty. I'm still in dialogue with them over the return of the brushless one.

For those of you that are "lucky" enough to have a working one of these brushed ESCs, you might like to know that (I believe) the manual can be found at http://www.r2hobbies...rcvp3310005.pdf - I think I know why there's no documentation on the HobbyKing site and I think the description in the HobbyKing youtube video could have been a bit more accurate/honest.

Programmable LiPo low voltage protection? Options include "On" and "Off" (default = Off). Manual suggests that it kicks in if the voltage drops below 5.6v, which I believe is too low.

The only other programmable feature is the "Mode". Options include "Practice" and "Climbing". For "Practice" read "Forward/Brake/Reverse" and for "Climbing" read "Crawler". Crawler seems to be Forward/Reverse with a drag brake (which should make Crawler owners happy because they were discussing this on another forum).

If you have a problem following the instructions, remember that the SI-LA-SO nonsense doesn't mean anything. It's the one/two beeps for LiPo Protection and flashing/steady LED for Mode.

Unfortunately, my faulty ESC doesn't have any kind of brake in either mode. A 66% failure rate is pretty poor, even with my luck.

@Supergripper: Well, I thought thread is mainly about brushed speed controllers, isn't it? Maybe you are able to recommend an affordable brushed ESC? :)

I have a few of these and they are superb for the money - not had any duds either... Blew one up but that was my own fault! :)

This has never been proven though and I have hit the Low Voltage cut off a few times with my 2S Vapex 3300 lipo and no adverse affects at all...

Could you please measure your LiPo's remaining voltage after the ESC's cutoff has kicked in? Either whole pack voltage or single cell voltage would be appreciated. This would help us all a lot to get straight facts on the ESC's cutoff threshold. :)

Next time I use something with it in I will try to remember :) Good point though - facts are required - I might have just been lucky...

Hi guys, i have a few of these in my vintage runners, they work great with Lipo batteries, with built in low voltage cut-off built in. I would recommend them to anyone wanting a cheap brushed esc.

Anyone have experience with this cheapie?

Many different sellers have these.

I'm sure it's really low end, but might be double-tap reverse which I like (hit reverse once for brake, return to neutral and reverse again for reverse, like TEU-xxx controls from Tamiya and MSC-xxx from Futaba)

I've had a few of those, but only run them for a few minutes to test it out (prior to sales)

How does reverse work on this? Is it based on timing (pull back throttle stick and get brakes for ~2 seconds, then reverse kicks in) or pulling back twice on the stick (or pushing the trigger forward twice on pistol) to engage it.

have seen same supplied in HSP Kulak

but as a mini crawler I think it works fwd/reverse instantaneous with no brake in between
