Well, I know I have two other ongoing RC projects nowadays but somehow you can never have too many, can you.

Last Saturday I had to say goodbye to my Sand Scorcher, the one with the custom work many people commented on. The extra bills next March will be killer. ANYWAY, before any more complaining on taxes and other bills, I better start commenting on my project. ;) Well, here's an MKII SRB chassis, and not one but two bodies for it. The Champ/Rider bodyshell was given to me by Cooltoys (Thank you!!!) and I got the driver from a chap in the UK. Now the Scorcher body was really one HUGE mistake I've made. Can you believe it's been MONTHS since I've purchased it and just last week I come to notice the thing doesn't have the bits to attach the window?? But, well, as used as I am to deal with adversities, I'll see what can I do to get a window there. Anything other than just make small holes to the Beetle's roof!

The project is now missing body clips, and the top part of the front body post to install the Sand Scorcher body. The Rider needs the panel and a new paintjob, otherwise it is pretty much ready. The VW body has some small cracks here and there, and it is in need of some putty and lots of sandpaper work. I'll have to find some of the smaller bits for this body later.

Anyway, I'll stop the chit-chat here and show you some pictures. I'll upload more as I go on with the body preparation and build.

I'm resuming with the primer job done to the Rough/Champ bodyshell... Had to sand the dang yellow for about an hour before spraying the primer over it. There was nothing, no brake fluid nor graffiti remover that would make that yellow paint go away!

Anyway, I'm going to pick the spray can tomorrow and I'll get this one painted anytime next weekend. I also have decals, so I am happily looking forward to come up with something nice, haha.

I'll only be in need of the upper clips for both, the Rider and the Scorcher, which by the way will follow as days go by... ;)

Thanks, Shodog!

Well, yesterday the weather was good enough to resume the painting...

I'm absolutely loving the shiny black. It is going to be the base for the buggy that I am "envisioning". ;)

It is not easy to paint this color, but fortunately everything went well with this one. That's Testors' primer and glossy black in case you're wondering. I'll post more pictures as I go finishing it...

That is looking real sharp Erich, BTW, you never showed us your tip about using wood to strip the paint off after the wet t-shirt contest was over. Did you say you were going to get those body clips soon???

Thank you guys!

Chris, I used sharp pieces of wood as spatulas to remove the Bruiser's enamel (which was soft once the wet t-shirt contest was over, haha) from the complicated areas of the bodyshell.

Regarding the body clips... well, that "soon" was pretty much what "someday" meant in the old Alan Jackson song ;)

Anyway, here's what I want to do with the Rough Rider. Not sure how to do it yet...

Even though the stripe you made looks close to the A team van, I wonder if Stickerbod still has the measurements of the Buggy Champ in his computer and could alter a stripe accordingly. He made the no paint box art strip decal in vinyl. Just ask him, all he could say is NO.

Thank you, guys! No, there's been no updates this time. The weather's been terrible here. It's raining and too cold to paint. I can't wait for a little sun so I can finally paint the stripes and get the decals on. :(

Well, it would be too long to explain how or why I could not go through with these bodies two years ago. BUT the good thing is now I just got to resume my work with the Rough Rider. The Sand Scorcher body was sold last December with a vintage SRB chassis, and ever since I got another two, if anybody can understand that. I just had the chance as I happened to come across two fairly complete Scorcher/SRB projects and you'll be seeing those in another thread soon.

So, here's how I am starting to finish my black Rough Rider. I was going to go orange on the stripes but then it hit me that copper was a better choice. Pictures doesn't show how nice it is looking. Believe me it is, lol. Hopefully this weekend it will be finished with the decals and all :)

Some pictures:

I'm using Revell masking tape and a small bottle of Testors' copper enamel.

Removing the masking tape:

Doing the other side. See how I used BOTH sides of the Revell masking tape. That's just how we do it in the 3rd world ;)

Nice results

Nose work proved to be a little tricky but it worked out just fine in the end. You'll see more pictures in the next few days.

I'm excited. More pictures to follow as I finish it this weekend :D

You all have a fantastic Friday! :)

Well, last night I kept working on this buggy until sleep defeated me, so it is still unfinished. Now I have to do some work in here, and I'll have to finish it later. So what you see here is just another step to completion.

How do you like these puppies? I got them for $10 on the RCU sales back in 2014. They're not new, but the way they look I'm totally chuffed!

I've done the driver and bars. That's matt red in case you're wondering. I'll be reworking the front lamps sometime later. I'm loving this buggy.

Well, there's still lots to do. I've got some nice vintage decals for the sides.
