Hi all can anyone recommend a brushless set up (esc and motor) that would suit a DF 03MS. I've been looking at hobbywing ezrun series but am confused with the different variations and their associated ratings.

I have a Turnigy Trackstar 100amp esc and a Turnigy Trackstar 8.5 running lipo in mine.

The esc, motor and program card are all only £65 from hobbystores :D

A 8.5 is best in the DF03 chassis, a 7.5 is its limit in being able to perform as the chassis has no rear anti squat, poor rear toe in and its silly short wheel base.

Super Gripper, if you use the KMC carbon chassis you can shim up the front of the rear gearbox to get anti squat. There are also rear hubs that fits the DF03 to get more toe in. Its all about the money ;)

Cheers guys for the info. What does the AMP rating refer to as I've seen some with 35A, 60A and 100A and does this need to be taken into consideration. I:m sorry if the questions seem basic but I've never used a brushless set up before. I should also mention that I'll probably be using my existing 3700nimh batteries to start with before purchasing some lipos. Another question does the stock gearing set up comfortably cope/handle brushless motors or are there any mods/hop ups needed/recommend.

The speed passion reventon R esc and motor combo is just less than £70 atm (retail price used to be around £160) and is a genuinely top quality item, along with being quite small and highly programable too.

RS2RSR, I use the long wheel base mono chassis >>>>>>>>the carbon fibre chassis conversions are too heavy and still too short !

I have the alloy rear hubs .........look at my car in my show room.

BigSteve, for a buggy never bother with an esc with the rating less than 100amps. This is the current the esc can give to the motor. >>>>>> you can get different spur gears for the slipper clutch. Gear your motor around ten and a half.

Jim_GT-R, that is a good deal. top find :D

Yeah I have the 5.5R combo and recently bought the 17.5R combo, £66.99 iirc from the Bay of E (uk seller). The Reventon R is rated at 70A continous, but I believe a few people have said its rated at 100A burst. Or if you wanted the Reventon Pro is 140A continous rated.

For non racing use I wouldn't go faster than a 9.5t , especially if you don't want to be tinkering every few runs. When racing you accept that post race checks and resetting the car are part of the hobby, but it's a bit tiresome for general fun running.

The speed passion reventon sets on eBay at £76-70 from uk sellers are a good set up. 10.5t shouldn't put too high a demand on your current battery packs either

I need to ad weight to the KMC chassis conversion so if it is heavier then the Mono chassis it doesnt bother me that much. Its also easier to place esc and rx on the carbon chassis:)

I agree on the length:) but its possible to get the length you want with some carbon sheets from say Hobbyking

I get you yes, buggies need weight now with lipo being so light weight.

Weight kits are available for most cars now. I use a weight kit on my 502.

Is the KMC chassis the super rare one with the cell cut outs at the back ??

The KMC is the one with cut outs at the back. I think it is available for $69.

Same for my 511. Lot of extra weight. Even more when low grip

Steve.

I have all Novak and haven't had an issue. Havoc ESC and Ballistic 8.5T motor. Actually, I lied, the Havoc had a bad component inside (according to Novak) when I first got it and smoked out after 2-3 runs. Returned it to Novak and they sent me a new one back out within days. This was 2-3 years ago and the set up has been fine ever since.
