Motor choice:

To be perfectly honest, I don't know a whole lot about this particular motor, but it seemed like a good balance of power (24 turn) and aesthetics. It's really a nice looking motor!

Wow, this is great! Insane amount of hop ups, which will make it quite unique!

I didn't realize there was an M size silvia body… will have to look into that.

the body is actually first launch for the TA05 M-Four Chassis kit ;-)

I've never built an M05/6 before, they seem to share a lot of parts with the 03/04 though?

suspension arms & knuckles, axles + gears in drivetrain, shocks... that's it :)

Next up, dampers.

I've had this damper set for a while and have been eagerly awaiting the chance to use them on something deserving. Although I can't quite recall where I picked them up at, I do remember buying the last set I could find available. I don't think Tamiya made too many of these in black, which I suppose makes sense, because I believe most people want to see the aluminum that they've paid for. Personally, I love the muted and obscured look of them, but maybe that's just me :wub:

Okay, been busy making damper decisions... Lots of ways I can go ,but I think I'm going to try and emulate the setup in the M06r manual, even though I lack the custom bits to do an exact replica. Apparently the wheel weights, rear lower damper stays, and the custom 1.3mmx3 pistons were never sold outside of the kit :wacko: And what's more, I notice that the rear piston rods are the 28mm standard length, and not the 26mm M-size like I had assumed.

So after a bit of scratching around, a plan has come together:

I had an odd pair of 28mm TRF damper rods in my possession, so easy solution there. The spacers the manual calls for are 5.5x3mm, but this isn't a great fit considering that the spring retainers they're intended to fit inside of have 7mm recesses? So I dug around and found some aluminum spacers from a Top-Force that measure a perfect 7x3mm!

Any guesses what the pin-vise and 1.5mm drill bit is for? :rolleyes:

Enlarging the rear piston valves from 1mm to 1.5mm:

Finding it difficult to tell the difference between the front and rear pistons, I opted to engrave a small mark on the modified set:

Fill to the brim:

Ignore all the bubbles and just cap that sucker off. I don't even bother cycling the pistons at this point:

This is the vacuum pump. This is what removes the air from your damper oil:

The top of the chamber lid has a one-way valve built into the top, which is where you draw air from, thus creating a vacuum chamber for your dampers:

For your steering rod, if you want to bling it up and also make it as accurate as possible, instead of using the caliper to measure the distance between the two ballcup, fit the aluminum spacers in between. This way, your spacing is always accurate and there's some aluminum-ness to it.

Another quick side excursion -- Anti-sway bars:

Decided to start with the black bar, which is the softer of the two offered. And red ball link ends, just 'cause :P :

Onto the rear stabilizer setup.

Assembling the blue Ti turnbuckle links:

Thanks -- Dampers are really one of my favorite things ever, so I honestly have fun building them :wub:

You caught me though; Only one person taking pictures here, lol. With my back injury I was having trouble holding the camera still, so had to drag the tripod out. It's totally getting in my way throughout this entire process, but it's been a tremendous relief just the same :rolleyes:

Not much of an update, but the dampers are now (finally) installed!

The nifty aluminum ball collars came with the red top link set, and make a very clean looking fit:

I went with the inner most mounting holes for the rear towers, and the outermost for the fronts:

Of course all this will get adjusted during the "chassis tuning" phase, but first going to have to pick out some new electronics. The receiver and ESC I had selected for this project aren't going to get along with the motor and battery I have in mind, so new electronics are going to be required...

Any suggestions? I'm going to use my old school Futaba 27 FM transmitter, so I think know what I need in the receiver category, but not sure who makes a good brushed ESC that has the Lipo low voltage cut-off thing built in. I'm taking a look at what Tower Hobbies has, but realised it's been ages since I've even thought about using anything other than a oldskool Novak with a cheap plug in alarm... and there's so many choices, I'm a bit unsure of what I should get :unsure:
