"Show me your Willy!" PHOTO THREAD - Wild Willy drivers and derivatives

Recommended Posts

After an inspired idea by Skottoman, I thought I'd get the ball rolling with a dedicated photo-thread for all the Wild Willy drivers and customised derivatives - to hopefully inspire everyone here as to what a versatile little character he is, and can be!

Although this is a PHOTO thread, I think a nice idea might to include a name for your character (if it has one) together with brief description about how you modified it (special parts etc.) and/or any hints and tips - but do try to keep the descriptions brief!

So go on, show me your Willies!

Ahem.

Not wanting to sound like a German cannibal, I'll start with a few of the Willy's I have in my collection...

First up, this was the first Willy I painted for my friend Julie to go in her WW2 - she loves Smurfs so I went for a blue and white theme, and used Fabrizios excellent tutorial to help with the face details...

Retro Willy

DSC09333_zps89655310.jpg

Next up was my own version, where I practiced the dirt wash technique (although I did go a bit crazy with the lacquer I'm afraid)

Dirty Willy

DSC01253.jpg

Then I wondered what it would be like to see what was under Willy's helmet - nothing as it turns out of course, so I had to fabricate a lower face using Isopon P38 and carve his features (that is a real paper 'cigarette')

Next, I decided to take that concept further, and really go to town, the result being perhaps the most frightening of all my Willy's!

Joker Willy

DSCF2040_zps1305db69.jpg

All that was really left was his eyes, as I lifted the front of the helmet (to show more forehead) and had to create a whole new lower face again:

DSC04051.jpg

I was particularly pleased with his mouth and tongue detail!

This guy became the driver for the Fro-Sco - I'd tried painting some overalls in a series of different colours, none of which I really liked... however, starting to sand off the paint revealed this kind of urban camo look... and inspired by Toykids' Moto Willy helmet, I thought I'd have a go at modifying a stock helmet with chin vents and a motorcycle style visor... (I also learnt to leave off the lacquer!)

Acid Willy

And the same time, Ciggy Willy donned his civvys, and became the driver of the STUMPkin:

I've made a number of Willy's waving (rather than changing gear) with their right hand, and following on from modifing faces, I thought I'd have a go at some hand surgery too... I painted this guy for my friend Lisa in the USA - unfortunately, there was no way he was going to fit in her rock crawler, so I had to come up with another option (see below), but he looks good on the bookshelf!

Hang Loose Willy

DSC04746_zps89e6e8f7.jpg

I'd painted a VW Bus driver to fit in my own crawler...

Crawler Willy

DSCF2427_zpsfdafe110.jpg

And he transplanted perfectly into Lisa's cager crawler...

Back in the UK, it was time to make a driver for my Nailer Scaler Willys Jeep...

Having modified another head (with the original intention of making a CHP motorcycle cop Willy), it turned out to be ideal as a Desert Storm style military helmet, and Helmand Willy was born!

Again, a modified right hand - this time giving a peace sign...

Perhaps my favorite modified Willy is not actually a Willy at all! A friend found this decapitated Smurf in a carpark, and I knew immediately what I could do with it!

It was actually quite nice painting a blue face for a change rather than skin tones, although I did try to vary the tone slightly too... I actually ended up painting his torso and arms (and don't forget the tail!) in the same blue to match everything properly... the white is the original plastic.

Of course then Toykid and IBIFTKH let the cat out of the bag about how to create a free-standing Willy - and immediately Ebay was sold out of Jack Osbourne figures!

I too had to join in the fun of course, as Toykid's Moto Willy is one of my all-time favorites...

This was my take on the idea... he likes to help out around the workbench.

Jack Willy

And his latest accessory:

And of course it wasn't long before Jack Willy needed a girlfriend... only unlucky for him, it turns out it was his sister! (Kelly)

Oooops, how could I forget this one - perhaps my most extensively modified 'regular' Willy to date...

Continuing with the Movie 'baddy' theme, with a spare LED light and some old suspension parts... plus a lot of Isopon P38 and dremel work!

Terminator Willy

I carved and reshaped the original race-suit into a jacket and T-shirt, and extended his balaclava down around his neck:

Soooo much innuendo... can't take it... I'm going all Kenneth Williams... OooooH MATRON!

So here's my "Vanilla" Willy

DSC01347.jpg

and here's the Big Willy style

null_zpsf35c08e4.jpg

I've yet to find a car he doesn't look good in :)

Hope a few WIP shots are ok here. Mixing in a few 1/6 figure items I've started 70's Shades Willy for my HB2010.

00482EED-23B2-497A-A75A-D27E83BCA27B_zps

and I've finally decided what to do with my old TL based 4x4 WW2, it's getting a Vietnam War theme and I've been calling it The Mad Mutt

C6D038A9-BEEA-4CDC-9E93-665EAC200351_zps

I'm quite pleased with how I've given him a neck & shirt collar just by filing and adding a couple of plasticard strips

Edit: I'm such a slow typist! Changing the shirt details makes such a difference Jenny. That Terminator is great.

And after she had finished touching him.

when i opened this kit, I asked her if she wanted to sniff the tyres (the best part). She said "No" so I asked her if she wanted to sniff my willy instead. She still said no. :(
