I like the look of a tamiya pajero 58044.

I got a new lunchbox chassis and left over rear axle and front arms, m-05 friction shocks. It wont be authentic model but close enough.

I am wondering what parts from what Tamiya cars? to hold rear axle in place. axle gearbox holder. it seem to me is fixed hole instead of slot type.

which Tamiya car that has those parts ?

could be good excuse to invest in either

Tamiya 84365 CW01 CVA Yellow Short Shock Damper Unit

or

Tamiya 84347 CW-01 C.V.A. Short Shock Unit Set II White Style

instead of mucking about with M05 leftovers, high chance they'll be too short

(in the CVA lineup, Std > Short > Mini > SuperMini)

It was restoring an old Lunchbox that got me back into Tamiya 5-6 years ago. I'd replaced so much of the old chassis I was able to use the bits to mock up the Montero chassis before I ever knew it existed. If I'd known I would've fitted the Brat wheels but as it is I used some MB wheels.

That's CVA short shocks on the rear but the previous owner had removed the "battery shelf", think they are touring car friction shocks that were a little too long for the front end. Lots of fun and with the larger wheels it would back flip when you nailed the throttle :) but a challenge to find a body that fitted. I was going to build a Monster Mini but ended up giving it to my nephew.

Nice! Im starting this build.. ordered grasshopper gearbox part tree... I have lot of stuff to order.. like complete gears set, and all those small gearbox bits.

I want to build a conversion of the Monterointo the Pajero to.

I have a boxed "Wheelie Montero" and the mini C.V.A.s in White (also have (short C.V.A.s in whithe because i was not shure about the lengh).

what else would i be needing?

1.) The Brat rims & wheels -> check! i will get them

2.) screws & nuts for the wheels -> hm i don`t know what screwbag i have to get....

3.) the front wheelaxles -> i don´t know if i can use the Lunchbox (have the already at home) ones or if i have to get Grasshopper ones (maybe i also have them already at home -> must check)

Is there anything else i have to get?

PS:
I don`t want an original Pajero, i want a lookalilike Pajero with oilshocks and a "pivot gearbox" like the Lunchbox or the Hornet.....

I´m happy about every recomendations and tipps, i`m happy about beeing a little part of such a nice community!

If anyone searches a builing tutorial, there is one in the Showroom of a member:

I've done this conversion and tinkered with the gearbox pivots. I vaguely remember the slotted pivots actually extended the wheelbase a bit over the fixed Grasshopper pivots if that matters to you. The end result of the conversion is much more bouncey than the stock Lunch Box. It really reminded me of my old Marui Super Wheelie Land Cruiser.

I'll make the conversion with the slotted pivots.

Do anyone know what screwbag I need for the wheels?

I need the tiny screws & nuts.

Do the lunchbox bearings fit the brat wheels?

Posted

I,ve found all the parts.

Actually the screws are only called 2x8 mm screws #9805556, 2mm nuts #9804230.

So all parts that i use for the conversion are:

the Brat rims #9005099

the Brat tires #9400554

2x8 mm screws #9805556 (two bags)

2mm nuts #9804230 (two bags)

and a mini CVA set (white) #84351

for the paint i either use some kind of white, orange/yellow or i try to make a Jurrassic Park Pajero, but as alwas i don`t think i`m skilled enough for that...

I`m already affrait to paint the original paintscheme and cutting the decals. The time i saw that the decals aren`t precut i thought i sell the model. (i have a very low frustration bar)

Thanks kev!

I don't want to sell it, is would be work and I know I would regret it.

Besides I staret already to build it, now I'm stuck because tere is a part that I have to find, its the grasshopper gearbox pivot.... ....I thought I can use the lunchbox slotted pivot, but no, I have to get the grasshopper one :D.

You can also use the Lunchbox/Hornet slotted pivots alright on your Pajero. That would make it a better runner, specially if you do the 3rd shock mod.

And it's curious your feelings towards regular decals. I always thought those were much better than the pre-cut ones. The pre-cut decals always have much clear "border" that doesn't look good on the finished model.

Anyway, I hope you go ahead with the build and customization of your Mitsubishi. I know I --as much as everyone in here- would be happy to see some pictures of it sometime :)

By the way, here's a photo of a Mitsubishi that was sold on eBay one or two years ago. Just to show how easy it is to make these things look good. One, yes just ONE decal and there you go. ;)

I would like to remove the lunchbox parts to lower the chassis.

I think I will need even shorter dampers than the mini CVDs and the grasshopper gearbox mount.

But I don't know how to mount the servo......

But maybe i'll try the higher ridehight of the lunchbox, it just looks a bit odd....

Check out the old Pajero #44 manual and you will see that the servo will still mount in with a bit of work . The Camel Pajero I linked you to is built as a #44 Pajero using a Lunchbox re-release chassis tub and I used the old type friction front dampers that I made from parts , and left off the Lunchbox battery holder etc to keep the original ride height

Here is the chassis I built :-

Thanks for that info!

For now ill keep the lifted ridehight, the oilshocks do work very well.

Maybe I lower it if I can find shorter CVAs.
