My Rising Fighter

Recommended Posts

Hey chaps, I did post a few early pics in another thread of my fighter project but I would like to have them altogether in one place now that it is all done(ish!)

This was my first Tamiya for a few years and I bought it to build alongside my Son's Christmas grasshopper. Originally I hadn't planned to change it in any way but modifying is very addictive and with so many other projects taking shape on here I had to have a go myself.

I started with an RC Bearings wheel bearing kit, I then added some Ansmann rear shocks, some Absima front shocks and more recently a 540 sport tuned motor. Mechanically I am happy with it, it goes well enough and handles nicely but it mostly still looked standard. I wanted a splash of colour and also some form of lighting aswell.

I bought some LED lights from Ebay and some light buckets from Modelsport and I popped them on a new shell. It had to be painted a bright colour and originally it wasn't going to have standard decals but I think it looks better with them so a second set were ordered. The rollcage has been hand painted. I also bought a Radshape metal front bumper to replace the original large plastic one. That is about it looks wise, I am thinking of either painting the standard wheels or replacing them altogether but as yet I am still undecided. The standard driver is a bit naff I think so he will be replaced with something else soon, maybe a Willy as they seem very popular!

I'll post a finished pic tomorrow when the light is a little better but for now, here's how it took shape-

Looks very good! I like the colour choice. The decals suit the colour rather well.

Only thing I would do is either spray the rear shocks black or polish the front shocks to a natural aluminium finish so that all 4 match.

Well I really like that :)

The only thing with regards the shocks is I would go for yellow CVA's I think they would look great with the green and would give a proper Tamiya look.

Although I would put yellow CVA's on everything :D

Just thinking out loud I bet the black star dish wheels off the red holiday buggy would look sweet too ;)

Sorry for trying to spend your money :D

I have a set of those wheels on my Blitzer project at the moment! I'm none to keen on the skinny front tyres however, they don't offer much in the way of grip!

I quite like the white wheels. They tie in with the white bits of the decals. Red wheel nuts might look good too - they would tie in with the red bits of the decals, and generally make the wheels look more interesting.

I would swap the front tyres anyway, just buy wheels without tyres and stick the RF ones on ;)

The rising fighter front wheels and tyres are wider than the holiday buggies, I don't think the tyres will look right on the thinner wheels.

I had not noticed that before but now you say it they look wider. I fancy some black star dish wheels for my HB but will be changing the front tyres.n

They are hard to find, but older 2.0" Proline Road Hawgs or Road Rage II tires fit directly onto the Tamiya rear buggy wheels. The 2.2" Prolines won't fit.

Liking the lights a lot, how much were they?

Colour looks cool too. Not sure on the bumper though wouldn't the plastic offer more shock resistance or will this shell be kept nice and the blue one as a runner?

I got the light from Modelsport via their Ebay shop-

The bumper was intended just for show with the green shell however I popped the blue shell back on for a bit of bashing and not having seen the small metal bollard sticking up I promptly hit it at full speed and mangled it! The standard one is back on now and will be staying put!
