Greetings All:

So, my two new Tamiya Sport Tuned motors arrived in the mail today.

I installed one in my silver Frog, and kept the original 540 motor in my son's green Frog. We went out and took the cars for a ride to see the difference. The sport tuned motor is noticeably quicker off the line, and faster at top speed. I was quite happy with the purchase.

While I had my silver Frog apart, I also liberally greased the gearbox, so it is good to go.

When we arrived home, the first thing my son wanted was for me to install the other Sport Tuned motor in his car, the green Frog. So, that is exactly what I did. I also greased the gearbox in his car while I was there.

So now we both have our new motors installed. Fun day, good run, looking forward to the next time.

The O.R.V. chassis really gets moving with a Sport Tuned in place! I installed one in mine, and surprised me immensely with its new acceleration.

Yes, it's really cool.

What is O.R.V? Thanks.

The ORV is a very versatile chassis - being used on the Brat , Frog , Monster Beetle , Lancia O37 and various other Tamiya releases over the years . It even makes a fairly decent platform for a Baja Bug - exactly what i'am building at the moment .

Correctly geared ( there are 3 gearing options ) and with a sport tuned fitted it can be a little rocket . Use 2s lipo and a sport tuned for maximum controllable fun without too much worry of trashing the gearbox . Only real design fault seems to be the original hex shaft drive - but that is easily changed to either dog bones from the re release Frog or the Hop Up assembly universal drive shafts .

Thanks for the tip. Is it a direct replacement?

Should drop right in!

I would use the smallest pinion gear first and see how it runs because it's a lot more RPM than a silver can and may run hot with a big pinion gear... I always start out with the smallest pinion gears and the cars usually run great with this motor.
