I wasn't keen on this car when I first saw it. After a brain storming moment I realised what I could do to this car with the DT03 specific Hop Ups and Hop Ups I had kicking around doing nothing so ........

Here is my build, the Super Gripper'd DT03 B)

As expected, the Tamiya instructions are noddy proof. I built the Hop Ups in to the build from the start.

The alloy servo mount is very nice. 54565 >> and a Kimbro servo saver

I forgot to take a picture of the bare chassis halves  sorry.

On the front end I used The DT03 Carbon Fibre shock tower 54562, really nice Tamiya weave in the Fibre. I had a spare set of TRF Aeration dampers so they went on with 54205 DB01 alloy damper bushings at the top and 54503 alloy suspension balls at the bottom.

I also used 3Racing alloy C hubs and gray TRF 54247 reinforced adjusters. And 54396 Front Damper Lower attachment pins and 54395 Low friction shafts.

I used TRF201 hex screws and not the kit screws.

at the rear I used the DT03 alloy suspension bridge parts 54566.

Now here I cheated a lot  I used the complete rear gearbox from my DT02 Desert Gator B)

It has in the Tamiya ball diff 53863, 3Racing Universal shafts and 5 Stars rear hubs and 5 stars alloy hexes. Anti roll bar is DT02

It also has a Losi 10.5 motor powered by a Turnigy Trackstar 100amp esc.

So I then just bolted the whole thing on :D with the DT03 Carbon Fibre rear shock tower 54563 and TRF Aeration dampers. Again using 54503 and 54205.

Such an easy build, I do not like the look of the kit rear wing so I used a TRF201 wing 54211.

The car also has the DT03 alloy battery bar 54564

DF03 rear wheels and I have used Schumacher yellow mini spike tyre with Schumacher Tubby inserts.

Just waiting for my paint to come from modelsport for the body shell.

Nice stuff...!

I'm really looking forward to getting mine. I have some DT-02 alloy parts that I'll use and I might fire up the CNC machine and mill me some carbon towers.

I think it's a great looking Buggy.

For some reason, I thought you had pointed out that the gearbox from the DT-02 is mechanically identical to the DT-03, in which case not too much cheating and more intuition! A clever step, I think.

It feels somehow like the Lamborghini Miura: I really like the chassis as it looks with all the hop-ups - and that is even before the body!

You have got to call it a 2.5! :) That looks like a fun build. Did the manual say the ESC could use LiFe batteries? I really hope you post pics when you get it done and painted, you paint some awesome shells.

Certainly Mike, here you go ......

I use these hard case Zippy lipo's in most of my cars, DF03, DT02, DB01R and now the DT03.

They fit perfectly.

Thanks for the battery pic Lee! It really looks like it is built for LiPo.. I wasn't sure how that would look or how it would get in there. It looks like you could get away with shorty packs too for a bit more tuning!

Well after a bit of tweaking, the servo saver was too short not giving enough throw. I have fitted a Tamiya High torque servo saver and that solved that one.

The next issue is the front end is very light. I noticed it when building but from initial powered runs (minus the body shell, still wiating on modelsport for the paint) the car is in need of a weight in the front of the car.

Because the Ball Diff has to be run so tight I cannot dial it out that way. This car will be a total nightmare to drive with the kits geared diff :o (with a decent motor in anyway)

So I thought about my TRF201 vega and its nose weight. ie will it fit the DT03 ............ nope

Looks like I will have to wait ( ha ha no pun intended  )

hopefully tamiya will bring one out very soon .........

That's one seriously hopped up DT-03. It looks awesome my friend. It could be the blueprint for a DT-03MS.

Steve.

Looks like the front and back end hasn't changed a great deal from the DT02. I'll be interested to see what other bodied models come out on this chassis - not a big fan of the Frog.

The whole of the rear end is DT02. Only the shock tower and gearbox to chassis mount is DT03.

At the front its only the front C hubs and wishbones that are DT02, everything else is DT03.

I got my paint from modelsport today, body shell painting can now continue ..............

Many thanks for sharing your build experience.

Could you please post scans or photos of the instructions for the TBLE-02S speed controller which came with your DT-03 kit? They aren't available for download anywhere*, and I'd like to see its detailed specs and setup procedure.

* I know some sellers are posting specs, but they aren't complete and I'd like to see the original sheets. Somebody at TC forums asked for help with the ESC setup, too, as he had trouble getting it done right.

I took mine for a spin yesterday at a local skate park. The car handles really well (Kit stock) I can contest that the front shock tower is strong :)
