Just been reading on Tamiyablog that this year is the 40th anniversary of Tamiya's entry into the RC market. This is news to me. I thought 1976 was their introductory year?

With this knowledge in mind though, I feel certain that we will see one or two new releases and/or re-releases to commemorate the occasion, probably at the forthcoming Shizuoka Hobby Show in May.

Anyone have any background information into how they actually got started 2 years before the release of the Porsche 934?

40th anniversary Tamiya must have at least a couple of special re re's up their sleeve - Avante 2001 and the Bigwig wishful thinking sorry.

RT1601 (56001) U.S. M4 Sherman 105mm Howitzer, released November 14th, 1974.

So, the first Tamiya RC-model (but not car).

Ah, so maybe a new tank or classic re-release then. Not up my street unfortunately. <_<

My most likely guess would be a special edition Sherman tank, maybe a re-re of the original one.

I have inside knowledge that Tamiya WAS going to do a BigWig Black Special for this year, however, someone on some forum made a"shadow edition", and Tamiya didn't want the embarrassment of being labeled copy cats, so the scrapped that plan. We will now be getting a Striker Black Special.

They won't celebrate with a rubbish re release. The 30th anniversary was a top car, a TRF developed Porsche 934. I hope they do so thin interesting and new, you can buy old cars easily now thanks to eBay.

Well, Tamiya is running low on ideas these days. Maybe we'll get a 40th Anniversary Porsche 934 Black Special lol.

I agree. Is no way to celebrate 40th year with a re-release, but something special.

I think if one is into racing, Tamiya is doing a pretty good job, but in terms of crawlers or scaled not so good job.

I am sure Tamiya is taking cues from other mfgers to part suppliers and even TC members here to see what they did to their models to get ideas.

Tamiya tried to milk the Willy series by issuing the Farm King, VW Bus, Tractor with the serious driver...but the problem I see is with a poly body and not refreshing at all.

Is good to do a follow ups, but the follow ups must be able to stand on its own. I compare it to action fighters like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Tony Jarr...all are highly skilled but each have their own style and are unique in their own ways...the moment one copies the other it doom to fail.

If Tamiya 40th years turn out to be a dud than we can look forward 10 years later and hope the 50th will be a home run and not just recycling of exiting parts.

You almost wonder what didn't make it to the shelfs or production line , back in the day

& wonder if they will look at getting that out ? ...

But i bet it won't be anything special , Like using some thing in the hotshot , boomerang , bigwig , super sabre

parts & make some thing out of that , With new bits to finish it & put a NEW body on it . Now that would be great & be some thing special .

WHO Know's , What they will do , just hope they do them self justice & bring the TAMIYA spirit back ..

^^^^ might be a tank then ;)

Would love a new tank. Tamiya make an amazing T-55 in 1/35 which would become an instant purchase for me if released in 1/16th.

I too think they will release a tank to commemorate this anniversary. However I have also thought for a long while that they will eventually re-release the 58001 Porsche 934 in all of it's warts and all original glory. Two years time for it's own 40th anniversary perhaps?

I think in their 40th year......Tamiya should re-release 40 models......yes 40......glorious wonderful models....40.....beautiful magnificent models.....

And then they will rule the entire world........ mawahahahahaha!!! B)

I understand Tamiya are going to release a Sherman tank on the DT02 chassis...

My bet is the 'Sherman Fighter G Black Special Edition.'
