Looking for a good grease gun/applicator for R/C builds

Recommended Posts

I saw a really nifty grease gun or syringe applicator here on the forums a month or two back, and now I can't find it again. It was something from the UK I think, and was a grey or black syringe with two finger slots/rings. The manufacturer also had a decent grease that several people here on TC used instead of Tamiya AW grease and it looked perfect for doing diffs and gearboxes, etc.

Can anyone help me out with a link? I've put in some time with the search function, but I just can't seem to locate it. Grrrr. I think it was the one that Wood5tock is using in his great build threads, and I'm hoping he can point me in the right direction, but in case that is not the one I was looking at, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

if you're needing so much grease you need a dispensing gadget... i think you're using too much matey :)

what's wrong with the stock tube?

could wind a sardine-can key around the tail maybe

i do prefer the old-style metal-tube tipped caps instead of the newer molded plastic though.

The metal tubes are longer & thinner. Lucky the oldies fit fine on new tubes of grease.

i got a heap of grease guns, oil cans, pump packs etc used for other larger lubrication jobs

but have never bothered bringing them into the RC workbench even for marathon multi builds

I've built dozens of kits with just the stock tubes, but I just saw this syringe thing the other day and it looked like a neat tool - less mess and more precise. Absolutely not necessary, but might be a nice addition.

I know whenever I've broke down and bought the correct tools life has become easier. I cannot fathom why it took me so long to buy Lexan scissors and a body post reamer, but it seems like I must have been nuts to not use them. I just laugh now when I think of trimming bodies with an Exacto knife. Yikes!

Besides, I have a burning need to buy R/C stuff. Maybe I've been hypnotized?

^^^ whack on a servo (modded for continuous rotation) and you'll have an ELECTRIC syringe... :P

talking about ridiculous tools... i found a motorised paint stirrer

ok so you might think its nothing new... but its for model paint cans?

c'mon are ppl that lazy they can't wiggle a toothpick around their Airfix can anymore

My sister in law is a district nurse = free syringes . Not exactly a precision solution but their free and do the job perfectly well .

Fancy motorised paint stirrer - nooooooo I use a battery operated cappuccino stirrer I found in a pound store lol

Hang on a minute i'am sounding more and more like a tight fisted Yorkshireman by the day

I guess we are all fools here. This is no different for individual that must insist on using RC hobby tools by Huddy or Tamiya when the same can be purchase from your local hardware store for much less. But sure is nice when you roll out your tools, they are all from a set and tailor made for the purchase instead mix and match. That is also why we have Tamiya towels, Tamiya T shirts, Tamiya bags, Tamiya hats, Tamiya balloons, Tamiya cookies, Tamiya brush...

lol I must be the exception then . I use my everyday tool kit for almost all my RC work . I think the only thing I have bought purely for RC work has being a dremel

I think it was Wood5tock and he had the Finishline grease gun http://www.finishlineusa.com/products/bicycle-greases/grease-injection-pump-gun .

Sorry for the late reply but I couldn't remember where my photo of this was DOH!

Anyway yes Finman is correct it a Finishline grease gun

54-build.jpg

I decided to order one whilst I got the other Lubes above after finding out from here that the Finish Line Cera grease was good for plastic gears etc. You screw the grease tube into the bottom of the gun. The great thing about this type of gun is it's great for precision squirting and you get as little or as much grease as you need. Just give the plunger a little podge and you get a little worm cast type dob, or give it a harder podge and you get a good pee sized blob.

At the same time I also ordered the Wax Lube above to try it out. It's fantastic for lubing outer parts because it give the components a wax coating that dirt and grit wont stick to whilst still lubricating both metal and plastic faces.

I got all my bits from Tweeks Cycles (links below :) ) At the time these guys were more or less the cheapest i found but do shop around

Ceramic Grease

Greasegun

Wax Lube

Halfords do similar grease guns and there are cheaper ones on eBay but the quality is not up to the same standard as the one I got, but it is a fair bit dearer.

Hope that helps ;)

That's the one - this time I'll buy it so I don't forget about it. Just looks nicer than using the standard tubes and a toothpick to apply to tricky areas.

The idea of an electric syringe got me to chuckling, but the power stir stick for model paints nearly put me on the floor laughing. I will admit to being an easy sell for cool hardware and quality tools, but ... C'mon Man! That is just silly.

That paint stirring gaget reminds me of a 70s cocktail stirrer. And as for that paint pot shaker :lol::lol:
