Ok needed batteries that fit the SRB and other vintage chassis

Had a old knackered Tamiya 7.2v hardcase hump was going to fit nihm's but went lipo :)

these look great in my vintage runners

Tools needed are simple

1.Craft Knife or stanley blade

2.Small hammer or pliers

3.Soldering iron

4.Double sided foam tape ( poundland stuff as i went through 2 rolls doing 5 batteries)

5.Electrical tap grey silver or white

6 7.2v Hump pack or 6v stick

7.Lipo 2s 7.4v soft pack

I used these http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=37406

1. Run the knife gently along the joint seam on battery slowly work you way round blade should be around 2 or 3mm into case .

2.Now gently tap the knife blade through the case starting at the wire end and work your way back round to wires . You will tell when knife has gone through case once you get near end will find case will start to come apart just be gentle and don't force it as they can crack and rip easy

3. Now case is a part you have to remove the small tabs in the top and bottom of case . There are 4 very small tabs in the middle of the bottom case I removed just as a bit of OCD was a bit worried if I fitted bigger lipo mite poke through foam tape and go into lipo

4. After washing and cleaning off 25 years of marks on cases time to fit the lipo :)

5. Make the wire holes bigger and test fit . I used a dremel but was very care full as one slip and that's and hour of work gone

6.Now apply foam tape double layer on bottom of battery . Three layers on sides and wire end of battery and double layer on other end . Have to trim the tape on sides down by about a third .

7. Now fit to battery to case only remove backing from foam tape on bottom of battery fit into case . Now fitted remove rest of foam tape backing

8. Run a bead of super glue round joint on top part of case and fit and hold in place with cable ties till set

9. Remove cable ties and run a bead of super glue round joint let it set for a few minutes . Now run the soldering iron over the joint . Watch out for fumes as the sting your eyes . Then cut off any excess plastic from joint and tape over joint with electrical tape . Found out from testing that this way works well can drop batteries and they stay in one piece :D

10. Fit your favourite connector I used Xt60's as that's my standard fitting for lipo's and use deans for nhim's idiot proof well nearly

Now enjoy your vintage look lipo's

I have run them in my Hornet and work great

looks ace, but unfortunately I have no hump packs 😩. Have you managed to fit any bigger packs in with less packing? Perfectly turns a soft pack in to a hard-case pack too. Anyone got any redundant hump pack cases?

Could fit bigger was more the price and c rating that got me to use these and i would rather have to much padding than to little

plus run times are about the same as a 3700 nihm pack that are a bit of a squeeze in the hornet chassis around 45mins

Nice job. Old look for a young soul. And I think I can identify with that "Nihm idiot proof" ^_^.

Hope you found a solution for the round case batts.

Shorty lipo's fit in the srb radio box well too, Plus they are usually 4000mah and a high C rating :) If you wanted a vintage look you could gut the shorty and put the cells inside a hump pack as above :)
