Today I have started the restoration of my first Hotshot Mk1. Actually it is more just disassambling, cleaning and rebuilding rather than a restoration. The Hotshot is just dusty from storing the last 29 years. However, it is a sort of a special work as it is a true Mk1 w/o any tamage to its unique parts.

As you can see, lot of dust, but no wear.

In the meantime I have taken it all apart, cleaned everything and started with the rebuild. Chassis with radio gear inside was fine so I left it together, just wiped over with the tissue. Front gearbox and rear gearbox with wishbones, axles and uprights are ready. Driver and drivers head needs a finish too. Next step I will rebuild the shocks.

Update:

Put the front gearbox, main chassis and rear gearbox together.

Looking great and is much fun to build.

Put the rear wheels on just for the looks :)

I will keep an eye out for this thread. I have an MK1 that needs to be taken apart and went through too. Are you replacing any parts with re-re parts?

OSR

No, I will not use any re-re part on this Mk1! Also I do not need to replace anything (except for the bend piston rod) because all parts are in great condition.

Oh

Looks awesome. You keep up the good work.

What about the body?

Oh yes, almost forgot about the body. Body is present and has some splits and remainings of bad youth build capabilities. I still dont know wheather I shall keep the bad body to keep the Hot Shots originality, or to build a nib body and put the new on. I have two nib HS body sets and have two Mk1 to restore.

Today I got the new piston rod for the front shock. So I could go ahead building chassis together. Now I will paint the driver and drivers head, mount the cage and go further with the body shell.

So this was yours as a young fella?

Really good condition under the dust! The one I have to restore had its last run in the 80's on sand. It doesn't look nearly as good!

I do however have some spare parts still on sprues and metal parts just need elbow grease to come up decent I find!

I don't have a motor though sadly.

No. When I was young I had a Boomerang that was driven to death.

I said "my first Hotshot.." because I have two Mk1 to restore :-)

This Hotshot I got recently from the initial owner. It was stored in a barn or something. He also drove it once or twice when he got it back in 85 and then put away with all its belongings. Box, manual, RC-Guide book, batteries, charger etc... Now I own this all over complete and original Mk1. Makes me proud a bit :-)

Restoration well done. You are lucky to find one in that condition. The one i found is in bad shape need quite a bit of parts to restore.. So its still sitting on the shelf..
