Ok now that production examples are circulating, just an update on what to expect... :) ...in no particular order:-

-rear gearbox casing is totally updated, diff access hatch on the left, slipper clutch on layshaft above.

--diff... Balldiff? or is a gear diff (fluid sealed!) an option

---new gear cover to allow long screw for slipper

----gears appear to be all metal!

-oh there's a plastic bolt-on horseshoe above diff hatch that cups the motor can,

stop it moving/bending gear plate in a rear end shunt

--no more thick rubber loveglove over the motor :(

-rear tyres still say GoodYear but are now 5+4 square knobbly pattern (vs old 4+3)

-front tyres look slightly taller aspect ratio/profile. Still 4-rib tread.

-from memory I think old has red ano'd shock bodies? Not the new, it's natural alu

-shock spring collars are red plastic. Possibly chunkier.

-Body/tub cover now has separate driver figure head

-front track is wider by a tyre's width both sides. Can't see what causes it, new arms maybe.

-rear halfshaft is not cone/friction-fit into drive hub. A knurled hub is now pinned to the axle.

-from memory I think old has red ano'd shock bodies? The red bodies were on the turbo scorpion. The standard scorpion has silver dampers

I've been enquiring around the stores about this release and it seems that it may well be going to be a limited edition as the stores I spoke to say they are getting small quantities. Word on the grapevine is that the kit will be sold in limited quantities initially but with a view to full production if the initial batch sells strongly. How "limited" it may be is up for debate though. The 2500 that AE supplied for the RC10 Classic seemed to be enough to meet worldwide demand....so would that be enough for the Scorpion?

Bleh I need to vent.

No place sticks out as better to order from than any other. Just checked with A-Main and their shipping policies are not favorable. I wanted to get two Scorpions (pre-order) and a few other things (tires) in the same order to save on shipping. But $99 free shipping only applies to in-stock items totaling $99 or more. The in-stock tires are only $50 or so, even though the total order is for $480. A-Main doesn't refund the shipping cost even after the out-of-stock items ship. One more reason I love Tower: They charge for in-stock item shipping, but once the backordered items ship and the dollar amount charged goes above the "free shipping" amount, I get a refund for the shipping I paid for the in-stock items. A-Main just treats it as two separate orders.

Wandy, I don't want to order now, but if the kits are going to be somewhat limited, I feel pressure to order sooner rather than later. This whole "I don't know where to order from" is getting on my nerves. No coupons, no deals, just raw $220 each no matter where I look. It feels wrong to pay full price.

I challenge anyone to watch this, and not want at least 2 of these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phenomenal video, and a great Job by Kyosho, late to the party, but about to raise the roof

Yeah...after watching I want at least 2 :) , but my wallet says 1 :( , and the Mrs. says 0  .

Finally pre-ordered two kits from Evolution Hobbies in TN, USA. (http://evohobbies.com)

I sent a few emails back and forth with Jeff Fowler, the owner, and he was a quick to respond and a nice guy. The site has an automatic discount of $15 for one kit or $35 for two kits, plus free shipping. Total was US $404.98 shipped for two kits. Figured I'd post here in case anyone else was on the fence about where to order from like I was.

Some pics from the Shizuoka Fair. Looks like we are getting original box and artwork too. B)

Also displayed are what look like some hop-ups. Is that a carbon fibre front damper mount and all new "Option House" style gold damper I see?

Edit : Actually, the example with the gold shocks fitted looks like the original vintage Scorpion chassis. What's going on there then?

In fact a whole set of Option Parts will be available so they really are going for it with this thing. Fantastic. :D

I think that Tomahawk vintage model is the actual car that won the 1985 IFMAR championship at Corona Del Mar in CA, USA, if I am reading that plaque correctly.

I can't quite figure out why they have the Tomahawk chassis in the display. It's clearly not a re-release and has a mix bag of parts. The black parts are obviously the hops ups. But the rear hex hub looks like the ones made by Dwayne

We need a shot of that list of hop-ups. It's HUGE!

Definitely.

I just cannot see how they could even think of making this a limited release, considering how much attention they are giving it. If anything, they should be planning to milk this chassis dry by also releasing the Tomahawk & Beetle and then bringing back a new Turbo Scorpion that features all of the hop-ups seen above as standard together with the modern ball diff from the latest buggies that they have stated can be fitted to this kit. This new Turbo version should also feature all of the cosmetic features of the original of course. :)

Man; Kyosho is really pulling out all the stops! I only hope that this is the start of an excellent re-release program.

Will they end up like Tamiya and resort to a 're-release' like the Hornet Black Special? Maybe, but that would be a lot of models to go through before that step. Even being largely unfamiliar with specific vintage Kyosho models, that should make a lot of enthusiasts happy.

Maybe the list of hop-ups is so large because it's got all of the components from the Tomahawk and Turbo Scorpion.

Buy the Scorpion kit, then purchase the needed hop-ups to convert it to a Tomahawk or TS. Would be cheaper for Kyosho to not have to make separate kit boxes for each model.

It looks like they are making anodized black versions of the chassis components based on what I see glued to the hop-up board, similar to what AE did with the RC10 chassis parts.

Unless those parts really are carbon fiber. But rccarbonworks.com already makes those: http://rccarbonworks.com/store/index.php?route=product/category&path=26

I wonder if the optional chassis rails are titanium! Back in the day there were a few cars that raced with Ti rails since the original as soft as butter

Are some of you guys still going to RCX this weekend? If so, then take a close up photo of that Option Parts list please. :)

Hi, where I can buy the Scorpion front wheels please? Any links?

Thanks.

Max

Hi Max. You've confused me with your question. Which specific wheels are you talking about?

The original Scorpion Centerline wheels are hard to come by and very expensive (like $55+ a set, or thereabouts, when they come up on eBay).

The re-re Scorpion front wheels aren't available yet. Check back in July when the kits and hop-ups are available at retailers.

The alloy wheels in the above pictures are likely Kyosho-branded and will be available as hop-up options in July as well.

Other places you can buy alloy Scorpion front wheels (actually you have to get fronts and rears as a set) are Pargu2000 (http://pargustore.com) and ummm... I can't think of any others right now.

There isn't anything particularly special about the Scorpion wheels. They are supported by bearings like Tamiya front wheels, not with hex hubs.

I'm sorry, I'm not following the discussion, didn't know that the model has yet not re released.

Anyway I'm interested in the plastic front wheels only. Either the tires don't interest me. Just only the wheels. I need them for a baja project.

I had a Scorpion in the past but never liked it and I swapped it for a portions of beans.

The only Kyosho I would buy is the Maxxum FF.
