TA04s Rebuild

Recommended Posts

Finished. Test run tonight.

Need to source a lipo that fits as my one is too long.

I also need a diff casing as the teeth on one mine is badly worn.

Are you running gear diffs? If so, i have a diff casing for you (which are btw very hard to find). I have no use for it as i am running a ball-diff in the rear and a one-way in the front. Send me a PM where i have to send it to.

Another tip: make sure you seal off the rear bulkhead as a single stone in there will ruin the rear belt and the diff-casing if you are unlucky (trust me, i mention this out of experience). I did it with a piece of lexan and some decent double sided tape.

Turnigy 4000mah hard cases fit perfectly mate pretty cheap too from memory.

Only if they are stickpacks though. Square ones do not fit the bathtub chassis due to the reinforcements in the battery compartiment.

Cheers Andy. Pleased with the outcome and that's evo shell fits so well.

ddaenen1 do you have any more information about where you put the lexan? I've emptied out a stone already.

Awaiting some 950 bearings then I can fit the evo suspension and UJs.

950 bearings are too small, they jam up quick & get beaten to death real quick.

Appeared only briefly in TBevo4/4ms/5 reversible arms

before T upsized to 1050s for TB03 & TBe5ms.

if you must use them, make sure the collar spacer between the 2 bearings is present

otherwise the sideload will kill them even faster

its these things

http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=9804372

which T added to later cars

before T started selling them separately, we stacked 5mm shims

between the 2 bearings to the width of the ridge inside the knuckle.

its just so that the bearings run parallel |-| before side loads

instead of getting pinched >| or |< which kills them

EvoIV & Evo5 were killing 950s average 1 a pack, i'd bring triple stocks of spares. :(

Not just jamming or need cleaning but totally collapsing into pieces.

Swapping the knuckles to TB03 parts & 1050 BBs was much better

but then you'll have to upgrade the CVDs too, or at least the stub axle.

Is that the same as Tamiya 53891?

Thanks for the input Willychang, I have found some of the references on rctech, so I just need to track down the right spacers.

Thanks ddaenen1, that helps. What's your experience of what Willychang has mentioned?
