Hi chaps.

Hope y'all had a good chrimbo.

The shocks on my beetle are really stiff to the point of not actually absorbing impact. How can i loosen them up? As far as i know they are the original items.

Thanks,

Sounds like a stupid answer, but changing the oil or springs might help. And not wanting to teach you how to suck eggs, did you bleed them?[:I]

Hi NEO

Feel free to teach me how to suck eggs because i'm a newbie.

I didn't know if the dampers had oil in them.

If i emptied the oil out would they work, albiet very softly?

How do i bleed them?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

mmmmm, they need oil in them for sure. well, from experience i have extended the shock shaft and filled the shock body up to "nearly" the top with oil, then "slowly moved the shock shaft up and down to remove any air that is in the shock body. Then topped up ad carefullt screwed the shock cap back on. Although some shocks have bleeding holes in the shock cap, so all you do is fill the shock body, slightly tighten the shock cap, slowly move the shock shaft up amd down and any excess oil comes out the bleeding hole if you pardon the pun then tighten the cap. To ask a silly question, the shafts are'nt bent are they? that would slow any movement in the shock too

If your talking about the tamiya CVA's they can be very stiff. if you want them to work better, make sure that you don't have the little pink plastic things over the pistons. yoiu can also runn a lighter weight oil like 20wt. The o-rings might be swollen from contact wit the oil. you can get replacements at most hardware stores. These tips should help free up your dampers.
