Just had an interesting email from Stella. Apparently the kit box is different in size to the re-release Bruiser. Would be a nice little bonus if this one comes packaged like the original. B)

Did you email them to ask about the box? I have one on order with Stella and didn't receive an email. Also, when the Bruiser came out they had the option of 'enhanced' packaging, which they didn't offer with this. Stella's packing is top notch though so I am confident it will be fine.

Weird that I am excited about this as I already have a Bruiser, but I can't wait to see the kit! Now all I have to do is find space for yet another box - My house is starting to look like a Tamiya warehouse!

As Stella has the Bruiser priced at USD569.90 vs. 498.00 for the Mountain Rider, I would rather think that the Mountain Rider comes in a smaller and less "luxurious" box, but the price difference can of course be for completely different reasons.

Yeah, when I had a think about it I came to the same conclusion myself. I wonder if they have managed to pack it in the same size box as that of the High Lift 3 speeds?

I asked them about squeezing some extra parts, that I was considering purchasing, into the box and they said that they had been informed that the size was different to the Bruiser so they were unsure if anything else could be fitted in until they see it.

I doubt the box is any different size wise (I'll no doubt be proved wrong !) since 99% of the contents are the same, and the Bruiser box didnt have much spare room - Stella managed to squeeze in a set of lightweight Avante wheels and that was it.

I would guess the $70.00 price difference between the Pig and Mounty are as follows:

1) Mounty comes in a smaller box? few dollars saved,

2) Brusier rear cab cost more than Mounty's roll bar and fake likes, few dollars saved,

3) lower the price just enough for consumers that already have the Brusier to buy it and to new buyers that considered the Brusier was too expensive.

It could also be Tamiya got it retooling cost back and now it just offering at regular model pricing.

Correct and that mounty pretty much the same as original while the Bruiser had new separate rear cab and pieces and new decals than original so that explains slightly higher cost

I hope the cardboard cutouts don't tear in transit like they did with my Bruiser kit! But they look the same so no doubt there is that possibility.

I can smell the newly opened box here! Congratulations bud, enjoy the build. Such fun!

Couldn't agree more. By far the best Tamiya build I've done!

So then....the box is the same size as the Bruiser's. Isn't it?

not the best photo, but look pretty simialr - Stella squeeged two set of lightweight wheels and hybrid spike tyres into my Bruiser kit box.

Is there a difference between the wheels supplied as standard in the re-re Bruiser & Mountaineer kits and the #54414 "four piece" ones?

The kit wheels are one-piece moldings with standard 'glue' beads;

bruwhe1.jpg

54414 is a beadlock/clamp style wheel

These 4-piece wheels are designed for use with Item 58519 Toyota Bruiser (RN36) and feature chrome plated surfaces.

The 4-piece design means tire beads are sandwiched by the outer wheel parts to ensure secure tire/wheel attachment.

To get all three speeds, you'd need a 3ch with a 3 position 3rd channel

It's not something most manufacturers make a big point about mentioning, but the Carson Pro-2 3ch has the right setup;

http://www.modelsport.co.uk/carson-reflex-pro-2-lcd-3ch-2.4ghz-fhss-combo/rc-car-products/368278

Up until now, the 3 way 3rd channel's been most widely used for winches on scale trucks, so you may find they're described as 'winch compatible' (the 3 way does winch out, off and winch in)

Provided the set has decent endpoint adjustability, you can use them for 3speeds - I know Netsmith used to use an old, original shape DX3 for his Mountaineer, but can't remember which one - either a DX3 or a DX3.0

So are they cosmetically identical when fitted?

No the clamp style have open center hub the other one has molded fake hub extending out , look at the pictures carefully you see it

1. The original Bruiser wheels are 3 piece wheels with an open center hub so the axle w/nut can poke through.

2. The original Mountaineer wheels are one-piece with molded-in center hub.

3. The re-release Bruiser 2012 wheels are the same as the original Mountaineer wheels (#2). They are one-piece wheels with molded-in center hub. They even have "58111" stamped into the molding. I will never understand why Tamiya did this.

4. The 54414 wheels are three-piece wheels with an open center hub so the axle w/nut can poke through and are the same as the original Bruiser wheels (#1). They even have "58048" stamped into the molding.

5. The re-release Mountain Rider wheels are the same as the original Mountaineer wheels (#2) and the re-release Bruiser 2012 wheels (#3). They are one-piece wheels with molded-in center hub.

The relationships are:

1 == 4

2 == 3 == 5

So if you want the same wheels as the original Bruiser on your Bruiser 2012, you must purchase 54414, otherwise you are putting Mountaineer wheels on your Bruiser.

Just looking around the stores at prices. I thought Stella's price was low but RC Mart are offering it at $479.00. :wacko:

Weirdly, Banzai can't get near the HK sellers with this one. Their price is $579.

Yes that's really strange. They claim to cut 40% off all tamiya kits but lately it has only been 30% off.
