Just picked mine up from the post office. :)

The finish on the body is just as I thought it would be. One happy camper here. It looks slick indeed. My plan was to put some original Hornet decals on the metallic black shell. Now I have seen it with my own eyes, I'll be going this route for sure. Not sure on the wheels yet, but look pretty tough in all black.

I can now see why people rave about Stellas' packaging. Very impressive! They were cool enough to slip the other goodies I ordered into the kit box too.

Really tempted to grab another one now. ;)

Why did I do this. I don't know but I did. I was waiting to get one for some time now but when I looked at Banzai Hobbies on Sunday, they had the price down to $70 for a sale they were having. Fine, shipping was $40 but who cares. $110 is still about $50 less than everyone else. Now I need to know what I am going to do with this one....

Man that was fast, I ordered this on what, November 30th and it made it here that fast! Wow, I love Banzai. I was surprised to see no ESC though. I thought this came with that brushless one?

Oh well, it was still $50 less than eBay. This was the same as my Watanabe, no ESC.

No ESC from Japanese market. Get a Hobbywing Quicrun (unless you plan to go brushless) and be done with it.

You know, all I have are Novak or Tamiya ESC's. I have never ventured away from those brands (and Tamiya only recently) so I am reluctant to try others. Are they good quality? I was just going to toss an 105bk in it. Love to know your experience. This car will barely be used and will not be scratched.

I can also vouch for the Hobbywing Quicrun 1060. Waterproof, lipo cutoff, no setup required, and dirt cheap. I have seven of them. Love it!

Hobbywing Quicrun 1060 ESC ' s are awesome for the price tag. It's the standard esc that I fit in my R/C ' s.

I cannot get over the price! My Novak Rooster iin 1995 was $129.99! Though I must say, it is still in my Pumpkin to this day.

I got one for xmas, and a Jun a couple of years previous. Hornet was my first RC back in '86 I think. The box actually states this is a Tamiya 40th Anniversary edition, as opposed to hornet 30th as most places advertise.

Just wanted to share a picture of my two monsters...unfortunately these are shelf queens, but I'd love to use them!!!

It's not quite finished, just need to paint the spot lights and driver etc.

Oh, just for fun, here's the driver in the Jun;

Here's mine. She gets a good bashing on a regular basis :) The body and wing are cracked in many places, thank god for Shoe Goo! The black metallic paint is also peeling from both the inside and outside of the body. Don't try to peel the stickers, the paint will peel along with it. That's the reason why the "off-roader" decal is missing from the top of the windshield lol :)

Love it, that's what my old one was like way back. But it always kept on chugging!

I'm tempted to do a third and go Brushless/Lipo with a Lunchbox wheelie bar on the back and maybe a DT01 gearbox with a limited diff. Might just buy a stocker for this.

I'd also like to get the words' Anytime Baby' written in japanese for the Jun Watanabe and made into a sticker in pink and purple but that might be a bit ambitious!

I would have liked a Candy Green Monster Hopper too but I missed that one!

Anytime baby in Japanese...(courtesy of google translator...anyone speak Japanese here??!)

Cool. Wonder if this is too literal...as in toddler baby...which wouldn't be so cool lol!!

That makes sense - I always thought the Jun Watanabe Edition was to celebrate the Hornet's 30th, and the Black Metallic was to celebrate 40 years of RC. I was rather puzzled to see the Black Metallic advertised as a 30th anniversary model.

Those monsters look cool, looks like Bush Devil wheels on the Watanabe and LB black wheels on the metallic version. I bet a green body will be found if you look and then you can plop that onto a standard chassis. Do you just put the LB/MP front steering arms on the front to put the monster wheels on then??? I think I have a few spare of those here, and adaptors for the rear wheels to go on and not get in their own way??

Correct on all counts.

The LB rears go straight on, the Bush devil rears needed the frog hex adapter kit (Tamiya part). Steering arms/stub axles are just LB/MP ones, and the front bumper needs cutting down, that's it.

On my Jun I actually got a new purple bumper from Japan so as not to hack up the original lest I ever return it to stock...which I doubt!

ps..they're monster racer ribs on the front...very rare and expensive but I wanted to keep in with the hornet theme of ribbed up front and spiked (WR01) at the rear.

For the Black I wasn't so bothered, wanted it to look different anyway and had the LB blacks available and unused from my lunchie black (which is an A-Team van on stadium blitzer wheels and HPI Yoko tyres).
