A couple of Future Tamiya Releases, including the 58594 Pumpkin Lowrider

Recommended Posts

45064 Tamiya Fine Spec 2.4G Radio Control System (White & Light Blue) (Possibly the perfect choice for a boxart Sand Scorcher?!) :P
45065 TSU-06 Low profile Digital Servo (Drip-proof)
58594 Lowride Pumpkin (M-06 Chassis) (description not yet fully verified.)

The Lowride Pumpkin comes with dish wheels and boxart colour is apparently black (body possibly molded in black like on the Midnight Pumpkin Black Special). Unlike the old 46018 Lowride Pumpkin QD, a rollbar will apparently be included.

Nice! Pumpkin shell is a bit narrow for 165mm m-chassis... will the wheels stick out the side?

I too am intrigued by this Lowrider Pumpkin, and whether or not it will include a driver figure. Either way, Wild Willy will end up in one!

Also intriguing to me is the 'drip-proof' servo... Water-resistant, or a roundabout translation of waterproof? The low-profile description is also interesting, as there seem to be very few water-resistant low-profile servos currently on the market.

I'm wondering if a better translation for the servo would be "splash proof"? Hitting the occasional puddle is ok but don't try running if fully submerged in a mud plugger. If that's the case then it's probably just a rubber grommet on the output.

I'm apparently in the minority, but I like that look.

Funny I have a pumpkin shell I was going to mount on a modified M04. May have to wait and see what they do with this one...

Cheers,

So weird, I was just thinking of the Lowride Pumpkin yesterday! Specifically the white walled tires -- I really want a set of these but they might be amongst the most rare spare parts Tamiya has ever made. Hopefully this new edition will include them, or even better if they were offered as spares

With a bit of cash and a lot of luck you might be able to find a set of the: M-Chassis 60D Super Grip White Wall Tyres (Tamiya item number 49032)!

It would take a lot of luck; I've been searching for a set of those ^^ for the last 8 or 9 years!!

I'm guessing the Pumpkin would look somewhat similar to this, with a roll bar:

Are QD tires M-chassis sized?

Are QD tires M-chassis sized?

It's not a clear "yes" or "no" to this question as there exist so many different QD-series models with different tire sizes, including monsters (with Lunchbox tires) and late QD rally- and touring-cars, but if we exclude these and the many QD's with their odd/unique tires and wheels, the answer is "yes"!

The first Tamiya M-chassis tires (55D radials) are identical to the front tires for the QD Ferrari F40 / Honda NSX (Tamiya QD spare part number 43018). These QD models were released in 1991, whereas the first M-chassis car (58149 Mini) was released in 1994, so it was a clear case of "carry over" from QD to M. As the F40/NSX wheels are the same size as the wheels of the early QD-buggies, QD-buggy front tires fit all M-chassis size wheels (excluding the M-models with touring wheels of course). The later 60D tires (same inner diameter and width, larger outer diameter) were developed directly for the M-chassis though and have no history from the QD-series, but are interchangeable.

Talking about QD-tires, Tamiya reused the 43016 QD Front Paddle Spike Tires (from 1991, for the early QD-buggies) too. The first TA01 Escort Cosworth (58112 from 1993) came with these tires as the touring sized Rally Block Tires didn't yet exist. This means that 58112 actually came with M-chassis size wheels in 1993, a year before the M-chassis was released!

That's very interesting. Perhaps some Dodge van (lunchbox) will be released with some N-06 chassis in the future?

I always thought Tamiya should have another chassis for the pumpkin. Its such a nice shell that using it only for wheelie is kind of a waste. A serious shell should not be use for on a comical wheelie chassis. The wheelie Willy on the other hand is find as the modified jeep shell with Willy as the driver are a good combination. low rider using the pumpkin shell will be nice and some TC members have already gone down this path.

Found some info on the servo: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10274888

Looks like the speed is good, but the torque is still very low compared to other low-profile servos (savox is $15 more and has 3 times the torque, faster speed and metal gears). We'll have to wait & see what the street price is. If it's a lot lower than $50, it may be the perfect cheapo low-profile servo for bashing.

Hoo boy... although the translation can be understood, so a good thing.

I think at $30, it would be an excellent acquisition.

Not sure about the snow plough at the front - it might protect the hard body but there's got to be better solution than that surely ?

I would imagine that it's removable like the training bumpers on the 959 and Celica. That's what I'm hoping, otherwise my thoughts are the same as yours.
