XV-01 Owners...Slipper Needed?

Recommended Posts

Gents-

I am planning on getting the XV-01 Pro chassis, and wondered about the necessity of the slipper clutch upgrade...seems to me the belt drive would be more forgiving than a shaft in general, decreasing the need for a slipper outside of really extreme scenarios. I plan to run mine on a "mild" brushless setup (3300kv or so Trackstar or Tacon), mixed on-road and rally-type offroad use with minimal large jumps. I have the slipper in my similarly set-up/powered DF-03ra, and I think it may be more trouble than it's worth there for my standard uses. Thanks in advance for your input.

I would absolutely recommend it. The slipper will spare the belt and pulleys from a little extra punishment, giving those parts longevity. Also, I like being able to adjust my traction according to where I'm driving and being able to put in tons of power without destroying gears and belts. The other factor is that the slipper runs a 48 pitch spur, so it becomes that much easier to get pinions.

Thanks for your reply. Does the slipper kit include the other pinion? Seems pretty bunk if it didn't.

Personally I don't like a slipper in the XV01. I just rally and offroad with mine and had the slipper but my other one without a slipper has lasted just as long and is a little bit more spritely on acceleration.

I suppose it can't harm, but I wouldn't say its that essential, although I only run 13.5 motors in mine

NO. It is not needed. Your just adding weight to the drive train. I've driven mine several times on off-road tracks, taken big jumps and never damaged a single gear.

Slippers are needed for buggies that are air born and for driving style that has throttle pegged mid air and land with the throttle on.

You're not going to be that high up or land that hard.

There are a lot of buggy drivers that are doing away with slippers as well.

For the XV01, it's just and added gimmick / $$ out of your pocket.
