For sale yes, around 50K for everything I think. Not exactly enough to retire on but good enough for a brand new sports car.

Sometimes, it makes you wonder what hidden stash are out there.

How do interested parties get in touch with the seller? Tamiya-phile, do you have the info? Thanks.

I wonder why the collection is up for sale? Also, do you think the collection was made up when the kits were still in production, or after, like all of us are doing now?

Concidering the level at which this seller has been collecting, I would recon that he knows that there are other big fish/ potential buyers out there that would be interested in this auction. I know of a potential buyer/collector in Japan that has already been in contact with the seller and are looking at buying the lot!

If all the kits where sold seperatly the collection would probably gather a lot more $$$ than when selling in bulk - since there are not that many people willing/able to spend that much money at once, but what about Tamiya Inc.? I would think that they would have an interest in obtaining so many of their vintage products in such a deal?

For my own taste, part of my love for this hobby is based on my childhood dreams of owning a Sand Scorcher or Wild Willy. The dreams and endless planning for my cars was half of the experience, and although I wouldn't turn down this collection if someone handed it to me, I think it would kinda ruin the joy I have today of striking a good local deal for a vintage Tamiya car. If that was my collection, I think I would soon be looking for another hobby? Not trying to be deep, I think the path is the goal in collecting old Tamiyas! For me that is![;)]

Surely Tamiya Inc have a number (say 5 for example) of each kit they have ever produced in a warehouse somewhere in Japan? I would be pretty shocked if they didn't[:0], but then from a purely business point of view, what would be the point. I reckon they have at least one of each kit sealed, as if fresh off the production line.

nope they don't - some of the members here have had the chance to visit the Tamiya museum and have stated that although they do display most of the early RC kits, not all are present and not at all in freshed shrink wraped condition, and not at all five NIB kits of them all (you never know what they have stashed away, forgotten about - but less likely than wishful thinking of collectors). I base my statement on what I've read only, I've never actaully been to the Tamiya Museum. I remeber reading in Master Modeler (ISBN: 4770028512) that President of Tamiya, Shunsaku Tamiya, said that they did not have the first (static) model kits that they produced, but I think they collect and display every single produced kit in a gigantic hangar like showroom(s):

Oh well[:(], I reckon that the combined collection on this site more than makes up for Tamiya Inc and what they should of kept for reference/museum pieces.

Five and a half million Yen!!

The good thing is that given how well Sterling is performing on the money markets it only equates to roughly £29,000!!

Anyone want to buy a grandmother??[;)]

Can you imagine the charges on that lot going through British customs? [:0] Or, come to think of it, the cost of bubble-wrapping.[:D]

I guess collectors that can affort it are likely into the 1:1 scale not 1/10 scale or already have them all NIB. For the rest of us sleapers keep your day job, visit your local garage / church / boot sales, keep and an eye on the buy and sell section of the paper and there is always ebay.

Just did a quick estimate on how much the NIBs are worth on ebay prices... the 50K+ price tag for the whole lot with the NIB kits, body kits and tons of spare parts...is covered by the NIB kits alone (from the picture, there could be more).

What a deal!
