Monster Beetle restoration

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

a few months back, I bought a Monster Beetle (with Box, Manual and Monster Beetle Jr.) via the "Bay". The car was in perfect condition, no cracks and broken parts on the chassis and body. The seller told me it has been driven a couple of times. After receving the Beetle, I noticed a lot of dust - I took everything apart and cleaned it.

Now it looks like this (like new):

(I know, I need to correct the Dampers....)

The only thing which I didn't like was the painjob (a really ugly red) :

I was very lucky and got some original Decals still sealed.

The last five days (2-3 hours every day), I was stripping of the paint (with toothpicks and brushes) and finally primed and painted the body, to this:

Later I want to use Tamiya clear-coat, and now I have a question.

What happens if I spray clear-coat over semi-gloss black (I want to paint the windows with Airbrush), will the semi-gloss black look more like "black"?

Thanks in advance.

Have a nice Day.

Marcel

If you spray a clear coat over a semi gloss, it'll look just like a gloss coat.

Hi Theibault, thanks for your answer you saved me from a disaster....

Hi Erich, I only painted the windows and added the Decals. I need to paint the taillights, but no new pictures so far.
