Not really,

I use an HPI 4300Kv motor, Flux esc and lipo. It would be a good idea to pack your diff with heavy duty grease, after a while mine started slipping but the heavy duty grease cured it for now. I've had no problem with the gears themselves. My CV cups (wheel side) are wearing, that is with 100mm shocks/GPM tower combo on the rear, however it's still driving fine like this, I haven't replaced them yet but I'm guessing I will need to soon. Just looking for some suitable replacements.

I would say the gmade shocks are fine, I use 93mm on the front, you can easily adjust the preload and I guess they sell firmer/softer springs so you can tailor it.

The Gmade shocks are lovely, but I'm not so sold on the shaft material, they're not coated like some of the Tamiya ones and feel a little cheap, but then I guess they are relatively speaking.

This happened to my front one after racing through a deep puddle;

med_gallery_28308_3714_371554.jpg

Might have happened here, but I noticed odd handling immediately after this vid although I'd been blasting through the puddle for a while before.

and another just before here;

Another Brushless vid here;

Gives an idea on Brushless, this is running GPM towers front and rear, 93mm front 100mm shocks rear. The only problems I have experience with this truck since new, is; servo; (acoms plastic geared no good for this application) solution fitted jumbo and gpm mounts, diff slipping; packed with HD grease, bent shock; put in vice and straightened out and that is it!! It's taken some hard bashing. Obviously those cups will be next on list but that's not helped by the rear ride height I guess!

Cheers

4300kv? on 2S or 3S? This is fast I think!

There are harded axles in black, for TL-01. But it fits also on WT01, I using them. Look:

http://www.modellbau-seidel.de/index.php?firma=Tamiya&best=53218

You can also use longer axles:

http://www.modellbau-seidel.de/index.php?firma=Tamiya&best=50808

There are 39mm long, normal is 35. So it could be mor stable. Ever tried this?

That is running 2S, so 31,820rpm running with standard pinion (can't remember now if 18T or 20T is standard!). The ESC isn't set up to maximum either from memory. Where I have waterproofed my receiver it is now a pain to make adjustments to the ESC. Next time I will run a Y cable out of the waterproofed enclosure so I can make adjustments easily with the programming box. I do have a 3S heli pack, I'd like to give it a go for fun but I think it's plenty fast enough as it is lol! Before I fitted the jumbo servo and GPM mounts it would wheelie and flip over, now with the weight of the Jumbo servo and the travel on the better shock setup it's far better controlled.

Thank you for those links, I've never seen the wide track versions, that sounds interesting, could make it more stable, I'm tempted to give that a go!

I was considering these;

http://www.asiatees.com/display?Tamiya-Wild-Dagger-Parts-Hop-Ups-Upgrades&brand=Tamiya&model=Wild%20Dagger&id=35933&pid=1

For some reason the third video doesn't appear in above post;

Thanks

Another wt-01 nito. Now that's just greedy! :lol: And why not. Love the BF3 shell. I don't know if you read my reply on my thread about the 100mm dampers. The car was really stable and wouldn't roll. This is with a standard 540 though so with more power it could end up rolling the car cornering hard but so far it's been fine.

Sorry I missed this, I didn't see your comments re it not rolling, was that in your build thread?!

Hey, this is merely my second WT01. Once I priced up the total cost of a Blackfoot bodyshell and all the bits to go with it (bumpers etc), it was only a bit more for the full thing!! I now own two WT01's and one WR01 ;) . The other three WR01's belong to the wife and kids!

Mine are the Blue Subaru WT01 and the Dual Hunter bodied WR01 on the far right of that photo! EsCos belongs to the wife, kids have the other two.

Bax! I drive with them... 3 times, than they was broken. The little shaft isn't steel, simple alloy/aluminum.

I changed all dogbones zu Ofna 79mm dogbones and they never brake and never came out. I think OFNA uses hardened steel, perfect quality. The GPM CVDs I canceled forever from my list. -.-

Thanks for saving me money then!! It's the cups I need more not the dogbones, but I'll add those ofna items to the list if I ever break my dog bones.

I think I'll order the modellbau cups the knight linked to above.

Cheers for that feedback,

To get better grip it's useful to mount beadlocks. I search for it and find the Gmade 2.2'' GT Beadlocks. They are not expensive and looks awesome. But the offset is a bit smaller than the original Tamiya rims.

User "backtomyroots" have these rims: http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41184

I think, if the wide of the truck would be smaller, but you can change it by using the 4mm longer TL-01 axles: http://www.modellbau-seidel.de/index.php?firma=Tamiya&best=50808

What do you think, good deal? ;)

Great idea,

My next mission is to put beadlocks on and I too was looking at the Gmade rims, and maybe even the pneumatic tyres. When you posted the rears earlier, I thought to myself nice idea but really I'd want the fronts too. Now you post the fronts, great find! Do it!!

he he, I'm pleased that I can help you. WT-01 is my heart-chassis, since nearly 3 years.

I think I must write a build-thread of my Blackfoot III... ;)

Great info guys! I've really enjoyed reading this thread. It's given me lots of ideas, thanks for sharing. It's nice to know there's so many options to upgrade the wt01.

*nito my comments about the rolling (or lack of rolling) on 100mm shocks are on my build thread. They handle really well. Shame about your shock damage. Must have been quite an impact. :huh:

Posted

I think it was the force of the water resistance on fast entry to the puddle rather than an impact. Still it straightened out easily in a vice! :)

Still can't see your comments on that thread...what post number??

Sorry nito my mistake. I'd just measured the shock length eye to eye like you asked but hadn't wrote about the shock performance. It's on there now. It's post #57 on my build thread.

Glad you fixed the damper. :)

Here we go:

DSC04202_zpsvhgelv7q.jpg

The wiring is really straightforward. Both servos and ESCs simply plug into a 4-channel RX, and all the complex stuff is handled by the mixes on the TX side.

I'm tempted to go 4ws on my new rig, is it worth it XV?

Well, I suppose it depends on what you are going to use your rig for. I stayed with FWS on my WT01 fast basher to save weight and keep it simple, and I am happy with how it performs. However on my WR01, which I use for trail driving, the enhanced maneuverability of 4WS comes in very handy.

Posted

Could it be, that you have a crawler RC-system?

I use a Spektrum DX4S which has several built-in mixes including a MOA mix and 4WS mix. This makes it very well-suited to a 4X4X4 model such as this.

Posted

Now I understand my issues I ever have with 2 servos and one ESC.

My Clod Buster custom build have always problems using 2 servos on one esc. I think thats the solution to use a RC-system which is made for two servos or MOA crawler. ****! ^^

Posted

I'm using a Futaba FF7 on my Bruiser, using channel mixing and all sorts to control the lighting system, it's great what you can adhieve with channel mixing and switching.

Think I might save 4WS for the WR as you say and run a Futaba 7ch receiver on that, I'll be running brushless again on the WT01 so with that power through the rears probably better kept as 2ws!

Speed Passion ESC, Turnigy motor, Blue Bird Servo and CC01 shocks - no other mods whatsoever.

Works beautifully. Not that stable at speed - I have a set of Wild Willy wheels which make it more stable as they are wider and give it a bigger footprint, at the cost of a slower top-speed.

The truck is very tough and lots of fun. Even though it's only 2WD, I hooked up my daughters bicycle trailer and it pulled it along no problems! I think 4wd would be required if my daughter was actually in the trailer though!
