Looking for some advice on motor/ESC for a high lift hilux, purely for light garden/woodland trail running so no waterproofing required.

Kit comes with stock 27t silver can but I have at my disposal ..

> a non tamiya 550 sized 'silver can'

> tamiya cr tuned 35t motor

> cheap rc4wd motor with 45T rating

I could couple any of those to a teu-105 (high enough current rating ???) or a mtroniks tio rock ESC

Alternatively I have a spare Novak Havoc brushless ESC plus 17.5t or 21.5t speed passion motors

So what do you think. ?

Teu-105 good enough ?

Brushed or brushless. ??

I'm quite happy with mine with the stock silver can. I've found that rock crawler motors, although slower, have a lower power output, so if you wan to go slower, my advice would be to fit the smallest pinion you can find first. I don't know much about the TEU105, but I would think that if you do use the high turn crawler motors any speedo will do. I run my heavy 6x6 on a 27turn mtronics speedo on a 9.6V battery and a silver can with no problem, and with the trailer it weighs about twice what a high lift does, and has a much higher gear ratio as well.

I had one of those trucks years ago, and for the use you mention I don't think you'd have any problems with most cheap ESCs. But still, it never hurts to have something a bit better just in case you want to run the truck hard. If that's ever the case, then the Futaba MC331CR ESC might be a good option.

Cheers guys

Have found a traxxas XL-5 ESC so that'll do nicely (and waterproof ) - the high BEC current should help the servo too.
