Should there be a separate build thread forum?

I think it's a great shame that there are so many great build threads on here yet they are scattered about in the different sections with many being in the 'General chat' forum which causes them to become lost quickly.

This must be one of the few RC forums without a dedicated build thread section, so what do you all think, should we have one or not?

Vote now people!

Tough call - I always go to the specific thread I would expect to see the build in. For example, looking for a monster truck or scale truck thread ? I go to the Monster thread. Looking for a Semi Truck build I go to that thread. Same for re - releases.

The same could be said for having builds "lost" in a build thread. Knocked right down to the bottom as new ones come along. The search function is another tool I use when looking for info on models.

For me personally, I'd like to a build section for 'stock' builds, very useful as a reference, and another for scratch builds and heavily modified vehicles.

Could be great, and then a filter, where you added the car you want to do the build thread for, like when you are putting your car in the showroom. This would make it easy to find what you are looking for.

The idea (for now at least) is to get the builds and restos all in one place to make them easier to find.

Some of the forum sub-sections don't get much traffic so I think it would be great to have buggys, monster trucks and tank build all together so they all get the same exposure instead of having to click into lots of different sections or using the dreaded search function.

The main issue though has to be builds and restos in the general section, this is definitely not the place for builds as it's too fast paced.

To be honest, i'm pretty fine with how the build threads have been organised in to the existing forum sections so far.

I try to start build threads with the modelnumber + name makes searching easier. Seperate sections would be cool.

On some forums, truly epic builds are made sticky. Typically they are posted wherever, and if nominated and seconded as being deserving of the honour, the mods stickyfy them, sometimes posting the links to a separate "Hall of Fame" section.

Maybe something like that would work here? Some build threads are pretty ordinary, while others are noteworthy. Such a system would let the noteworthy ones be found more easily, and would also honour those folk who undertake really cool builds, possibly inspiring others to do the same.

just have a build threads or forum section and keep it simple (KIS)...unit it gets crazy or difficult to find then we could fine tune it. otherwise it will never take off. The current trend is willey, which we seem to not get enough of it, as evident by how many wheelie version Tamiya has already put out.

I think a build section would be a good idea. Most seem to end up in the General section and get lost pretty soon. Like Tamiya 1/10 says best to keep it simple and just have the one area IMO.

I personally don't have a problem posting in what I consider the most relevant section - although my Kyosho Optima thread didn;t get much limelight in the other makes section (no bad thing since its still not finished lol!). The only real issue i see without a bespoke build thread area is that you'll find builds for originals and re-re versions in different sections, if people stick to the vintage and rere sections.

Provided the thread title contains the model number/name and 'build' then its not going to task the search function.

Many thanks to SteveU30 for his assistance and sending links to the build threads and thanks to those that have agreed to have their threads moved - I didn't have time to contact everyone on his list yet, but I've made a start.

If anyone else wants their threads moved, please PM me, but please only ask for your own threads to be moved. If you think a thread from someone else should be moved, please PM them and suggest they contact me

FWIW. I think it's a nice idea to have a dedicated 'build' section, especially - as has already been mentioned - when people are building hybrids and/or using parts from original and re-re models... or freaks like me who take a 1:14th scale truck body and put it on a wheelie chassis for example ;o)

Obviously a dedicated how-to or technical build illustration on a particular element of a specific model might be better off remaining in the existing model range threads (e.g.. how to restore/repair a specific part, or fit a ball-diff etc.) as a point of general reference? - but for overall beginning-to-end build-ups, it would be nice to have them all in one area - as I believe the main purpose of this kind of thread is more about inspiration, and taking us all along for the ride as we see a project develop over weeks and months... I for one love to see what other people are up to, especially building vehicles I wouldn't necessarily have thought of in the first place?

This is going to be great going through all these.

Got to make sure I put enough effort into progressing the grapple skidder now so that it doesn't drop off page 1 until it's finished. ;)

Also slightly scary that the steel king tiger was started in 2010 and I still haven't finished it yet.

One project floating in my head is a GF-01 with a tumbling bull bodyshell, some proper tractor tires front and rear, and a nice slow motor. Still got too many unfinished projects before I start another though............ :)

Now that you mentioned about your rebuild, i visited your build and interesting to see the differences between T and K. The Optima seems to be of better quality, mind you could be a more expensiver kit.

Awesome idea! You read my mind. Thanks too to the mods for makin it happen. It will make it easier to search one section rather than the entire board.

My personal thoughts are some of the excellent build thread get lost in all the other forum posts and it will be nice to see them all in one place. :)

Thanks guys :)

If you find any of mine you are more than welcome to move them.
