Super Champ re-release - Fighting Buggy

Recommended Posts

Hi Gang.
Thinking of ordering this! Actually found a few in stock 20min drive from my place.
I have a few questions:

1) what’s the story with the battery fit? Can I use standard size Tamiya Batteries with this. Will a Shorty Lipo pack fit? Or am I stuck buying a special battery just for this model.
2) Steering rods look very very weak. Any availability of upgrades to the steering mechanism?

3) It looks absolutely stunning. It will be a shame to smash the body. Any available Lexan bodies I can use for bashing?

Links to recommend products will be appreciated :-)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers from Canada,

Tal

Hey @Tal00, I use a LiPo stick type in mine with a bit of the self adhesive sponge tape here and there. The battery is on the long side as it’s 136mm (& 23mm thick) any longer and it wouldn’t fit. There are some that are 133mm long that would probably be better.

I’m not aware of any Lexan bodies for these?

And wouldn’t worry about the steering rods, they are more or less the same as on my Buggy Champ and I’ve never had any dramas with them.

Hope that’s some help.

Thanks @Re-Bugged that’s good news. I just picked up smallish Lipo soft packs and I was hoping that they would fit. They are 135*45*25mm.  Could you please check if they will fit? I wonder if the 25mm thickness is an issue.

Thank you!

No worries, from memory I was going to use my square hard case originally and that is 25mm thick. It looked as though it was going to work until I came to trying to put the clips in that hold the top deck.

The problem was the screws through the gearbox assembly going into the chassis plate sticking up. You might be able to file them off as it’s only by a 1mm or two that the clips won’t go in. Seeing as my other battery fitted fine I’ve just put some sponge tape over the protruding screws. I would be a little concerned using Soft case LiPo’s in this instance though myself for fear of damaging them.

Window shopping over a cuppa I came across this,

https://www.rcmart.com/tamiya-1-10-fighting-buggy-2014-ep-car-kit-47304-00063495

If you missed the last run looks like it’s coming round again 😁

Yes, I’ve seen that too. I like them a lot but I’ve got such a pile of unbuilt kits and kits to rebuild. I guess it would be silly not to get one while they’re available though ;)

Thats probably safer than window shopping with a wine...

For most of 2020-21 I did window shopping with a scotch. Now I have 11 cars.

Thats how I got my FF04 Evo, its the best way.

Actually yesterday I was in such a boring meeting that a new 21.5T motor ended up getting bought, it turns out boredom is a lot like wine...
