Chevrolet K-5 Blazer Ascender Kit

£249.99 (RRP)

The Chevrolet K-5 Blazer is one of the most popular 4x4 vehicles off all time. This 1/10-scale kit gives you all the hardware necessary to build an RC version that looks and drives like the real thing. At the heart of its incredibly scale performance is the Vaterra® Ascender chassis. This innovative platform features stamped-steel ladder frames with adjustable wheelbase, a metal gear transmission and one of the most capable off-road suspensions available. A licensed 1986 K-5 Blazer body and licensed reproductions of Interco Super Swamper tyres are also included.

Stamped-Steel Ladder Frames with Adjustable Wheelbase

Steel, C-channel frames form the backbone of the Ascender chassis and give you four wheelbase lengths to choose from: 12.36 in (314mm), 11.9 in (302mm), 11.4 in (290mm) and 10.95 in (278mm). Markings on the frames make wheelbase adjustments easy.

Heavy Duty Suspension

The chassis has been designed with a 3-link panhard bar front suspension and a 4-link rear suspension. All suspension links are machined from aluminium to handle the most punishing conditions. Oil-filled, threaded shocks soak up the bumps and give you a variety of pre-load settings.

Metal Gear Transmission

The single-speed metal gear transmission is engineered to handle high-output power systems and brutal conditions. Those seeking a little more flexibility for different types of terrain can upgrade to the optional two-speed transmission, sold separately.

Floating Battery Tray

The battery tray floats over the front axle and is designed to accept 96mm shorty packs. Placing the weight of the battery over the front axle gives the front tyres extra traction when crawling over rocks and tackling steep inclines.

Nice find ~ ! (Though very scx10 "ish")

Agree. The Axial designer is now working for Vaterra. I guess one cannot deviate too once a ladder type frame is part of the design. And we got to thank Tamiya for started it all with the 3spds.

On the bright side, scx10 now has a competitor, and it comes as kit. Two good news. Maybe this will motivate axial to respond with a better scx10.

(What I really would like to see - a 1/8 scale crawler - more weight, more realism)

Axials designer swapped to vaterra really?

Maybe you've seen the video already, but in case not:

I reckon the chassis is good, but the body is obviously not as good as for instance the Tamiya Bronco. A bit "vague" in the details and edges and not particularly good proportions. As the body is the most important factor in a scale crawler to me, it won't end up on my wish list. A decent try though! :) With the licensing in place, one can just hope that Vaterra will follow up with a baja version, Blazing Blazer style.... :P

Actually, I think the body looks pretty good, but it's let down by a complete lack of an interior - fine for a touring car, but a scale crawler should have something inside the windows.

It also should have leaf springs; a real 1986 Chevy K-5 Blazer does.

I agree, if they're going to the trouble of all the other details, why not keep it true to the original.

I just made that up. If true, not surprise.

If this model takes off, i am sure a bunch after market parts will be available, if not already from existing.

For me, based on what I see, i will pass.

Was thinking the same about the designer-swap

The similarities of the vaterra model Twin Hammer to Axials Yeti was quite obvious but now with this Blazer chassis on a "SCX-Copy" it's more than that.
