i had a mad moment the other day and ended up buying about 50 vintage RC car mags from 1980 - 1989 (model cars monthly and radio race car). i,m slowly reading my way through them, but one thing i have noticed - especially in the very early model cars magazine, is the hints and tips on running and modifying the SRB. in virtually every magazine a reader has written in with somekind of mod - there,s even some details on how to convert your rough rider ito a twin wheeler on the rear - thats 2 wheels on each side, on 1 axle..it looks bizarre!. i decided to start doing these mods, so after a couple of hours tinkering about with my rough rider runner, here,s the result.....

what i,ve done so far is to fit a stabalizer bar, cut off the top arm bump stops, and fitted the rubber band on the arms - hopefully to stop them popping apart - apparantly. i,ve not driven it yet, so i cant comment on it.........

loads more mods to do yet!.

the article with the front stabalizer mod, also talks about solving the problem of "the frisky rear end" - their description not mine!. in the article it shows an exploded view of the rear arms, and shows how to fit various home-made friction washers around a modified pivot bolt. both these articles and all the others i,ve found so far, all come with easy to follow pictures. its a pity i haven,t got a scanner, otherwise i,d download them all here.

more pictures will no doubt follow [;)].

Hi Madbadjezza, good work so far. You might be interested in a couple of items in my showroom. I have one showing ways to improve the front end of an SRB including cutting off the bump stops, using inverted lower arms as uppers as they are stronger etc. You may also want to use a super champ/R5 turbo servo saver etc. Check out the Monster SRB too as that shows what can be done with an SRB chassis and some work!
