This is like if one has $80,000.00 to spend on a car, don't buy a Civic and spend $60,000.00 on up grades because in the end is still a civic, maybe the best civic around. Instead, use the $80,000. towards a porsche or a vette. My most recent buy was 3racing F113 vs Tamiya F1, which Tamiya was cheaper but after bearings, shocks, carbon deck, diff. etc will cost a lot more, so why borther. The only advantage if going with Tamiya is the body and decals. I ended up spending $20 on Tamiya decals on a non existing F1 body. I painted it red and no one will know is a none F1 body.

Now i prefer buying better brand kits than spending a ton on money on up grades.

For me, that is exactly the point of taking a basic car and adding a shedload of hopups. To continue with your analogy, anyone with a modicum of skill can go fast in a Porsche or a 'Vette - nothing special there. But to keep up with, and even perhaps pass said Porsche or 'Vette driving a Civic you modified yourself - now that is something to feel good about!

why not? :DDSC02890-640.jpg

open the slimline kitbox, take out CF plates & blue alloy motor cave... replace everything else with hopups!

LMAO. True that bro. That's one slick VDF! I have read ya build thread on more than one occasion too, very nicely put together. Would be cool if you could transfer it over here to "The Builds" section somehow.

Take note of Willys words my friends. These bad boys will indeed cost you if you have a hop up addiction. Probably more so than any of Tamiyas' chassis. But if done, in my eyes they are, the illest. :)

Can't wait to build mine, still collecting though. ;)

Even if the Hop Ups are over priced , on some Tamiya cars some hop ups are a MUST. TRF shocks are truly a fantastic damper (yes the CVA's are good, but nowhere near as smooth and reliably smooth as the TRF dampers) on some cars the steering slop is ridiculous (alloy steering and uprated ball stud turnbuckles make a vast improvement) still to this day even on a TA06 chassis car no CVD's as standard at least on the front axle :( (again these are a must for any kind of decent powered motor to be added)

Yes some hop ups are for that bling factor, but there are alot of hop ups that genuinely make the cars more fun and reliable to drive. :)

After, can't help myself. In this guise it has a 27t 540 and 6X4/5 SubC cells. I won't go in to all the other mods, wheel inners, front a-arms, bumper and body posts are standard. oh and the body clips too.

I'm with you I can't help myself. Started with a base TT01. The green eyed mister got me now I have a very red flying machine. Saw the hopped up chassis as a fair lady on the cover of an RC magazine about 4 years ago and vowed one day it would be mine. Pics are on my show room.

As it is on the picture, it was about 2.000 $. I added a full set of HCR alu rims, Masher tires and a Neu motor, which added another 400$!

I never ran it, and ended up selling it.

My name is Jason and I too have a problem...ever since I was a boy I was obsessed with 'hop ups' and improving the overall performance of my R/C cars...most of the time it lead to the demise of the car itself!

I'm regularly hunting for original Tamiya early 80's ball bearings for hopping up my Super Champ.

Still only have 4, need more so I can continue hopping it up :-)

I've driven it about 2-3 meters in total ^_^
