RC Channel Full Metal Kit SRB

Recommended Posts

Had a Scorcher delivered today that has the RC Channel metal kit installed.

Did not come with the instruction, anybody have a scan?

Having a problem with one side binding when I compress it.

The other side is nice and smooth.

Pulled the shock off thinking it was the problem, but it wasn't.

Then pulled the axle and that is where the problem is, don't know what is causing it to bind, when removed the suspension has full travel, when installed it binds up.

This buggy was new built, ran 2 times and then put on the shelf.

The one thing I question is, does the full metal kit use the Tamiya U joints, or something else?

This buggy has the stock u joints, haven't been able to find pics of the metal kit to tell what it uses.

The owner-buider is no help, I think he is ticked off that it didn't bring more in the auction, he even screwed me on the shipping.

Thanks for any help.

Mike

I will add pic's for you in a few minutes . As i have the instructions .

This kit come with it's own u joints & shalft's . If you look at the last pic on MY below post .

You will see the parts list that came with the kit . Now you can buy the rear shalfs from rcchannel.com.tw/

by them self .

I hate it when seller tries to make up for less than expect completed price. Is robbery. It happen to me with a web-seller from Germany, where he charged me VAT eventhough I am outside the EU, and it was post to me. I dealt with other sellers in Germany, which never charge me VAT and I know postal record proves the good was exported.

BTW, is the upright item TC58730 available. I believe the upright will prevent the rear wheel from bowing inward, which looks funny to me.

Hey Guys

Thanks for the replies and the instructions.

Think I have it sorted, for whatever reason the builder used the Tamiya joints instead of the RC Channel shafts.

Emailed Paul at RC Channel, and got a quick reply, seems like a really cool guy by the way.

Will be ordering the correct shafts.

Seller first said $50 to ship, which is way to much, then said $30 to ship, which I was Ok with, then after the auction was over, sent an invoice for $50 for shipping. I know he thought the car should have brought more, heck I thought it would have went for more, that's the chance you take on an auction.

This thing is loaded with aluminum, even has aluminum motor and gear covers, not sure who made them.

Will put some pics in my showroom in a bit. I had planned on building a Scorcher just like it, have wanted to used a RC Channel kit, he makes some nice parts. Might buy another kit for a Ranger I'm doing.

Oh no not a waste of time, showed me what I needed to order.

I'm pretty impressed with the kit, looks like it really fixes the camber issues.

Thanks for the link. Agree, they have nice stuff.

It looks to make it work will also need the rear roll cage. For $100.00 for whole rear is reasonable/ OK. But for now the RR will continue to look like it just got off a horse.:-D

I plan using a set of Scorpion 2014 shocks with the coilover kit, I made aluminum collars for the tops and will use the stock Kyosho bottom mounts.

Will be removing the torsion bars and front springs.

Will be interesting to see how it all work out.

I noticed they are not on his site too.

Went to buy the shafts and it came up with $24 shipping, OUCH!

Sent an email to see how much the shipping will be, on ebay he sells quite a few parts and on the small stuff it's $5, I'm assuming it was a mistake on the web site. The Scorpion 2014 shocks are pretty nice, just like the old days, Kyosho shocks are better than the Tamiya's :) (did I say that out loud?)

I wonder if rc channel will put out their own kit like Capo. They have nice stuff. I should like to use all their up grades, but all the left over parts from the original seems to be a waste. Metal with metal goes together well like for the RR, SC or the big rigs.

Did you get it from the Web site Or Ebay site ?.

I'm sure it won't cost that much , or it's sent fast post < and this is why it not cheap on postage ?.

I have had this kit for a while now.

It goes together ok but I had the same problem with one side binding but it was with a metal on metal issue that I had to file away.

First run in the garden 3 seconds in and the car stopped. No jumps or anything, this happened.

One quick email to Paul and he sent me out a free replacement pair.

I hope this was just a faulty casting.

Looks like a bad design and it will break again at the same weakness point. The rear cage should be welded rather than bolded together.

Ouch, didn't need to see that :(

Hope as you say it's a bad casting.

First breakage I have seen anywhere.

Have not heard any negative comments on his kit.

Where did you find the metal to metal contact and where did you file it?

It was where the hub in above picture slides into the other metal part, the 2 pivot points were tight and needed refining.

But the new ones I fitted today went straight in.

Yep seen them, have heard good and bad on them, what is your experience?

Have you run your full metal kit much?

After seeing the broken part pic, wonder about the durability.

The quality looks good, How they assemble is very good and they look great.

But the durability is unknown. I have run mine very little to know.

I've got this full set up on a re-re. I hate how much slop is in the upper arm with the rubber bushing. I really want to take it out and replace it with an aluminum sleeve or something. Drives me nuts how much play is in the rear suspension. Not that I ever run it....

I agree about the slop but if the rubbers were taken out I fear that the metal would break due to no damping.
