Where are the tyres rubbing? It would be a pity to have to raise the ground clearance by much - the stance looks great as it is. Perhaps some subtle trimming of the shell might achieve the intended goal?

Posted

I'm thinking along those lines now too actually, since all the rubbing 'appears' to be just on the rear bumper. I'm thinking I could enlarge the wheel openings with a Dremel, but it's the patch-up paintjob afterwards I'm worried I'll get wrong...

I had to do some subtle trimming on mine too, and I was also worried about the touch-up job. I had to trim small amounts from the lower corners of the wheel arches, and quite a significant amount from behind the front bumper.

I used a scalpel with a new blade to remove the offending plastic a sliver at a time, then touched up the areas with a cotton bud soaked in paint from the spraycan. The cotton bud approach avoided the need for remasking, and also avoided brush marks. The end result is indistinguishable from the original paint.

Since your bumpers and arches are black, it should be reasonably easy to hide the transition from old to new paint. I'm sure it will come out fine! :)

I've adjusted the eBay 4-link kit slightly using some Tamiya ball adjusters instead, as the rear wheels were positioned slightly too far back. I haven't taken it on a test drive yet, but initial impressions (ie. rolling it back and forth on the dining table, trying to avoid the temptation to make 'broom broom' noises!) it doesn't appear to be rubbing any more.

Forgot to take any before / after pictures though.

I have also just spent some more money on Junfac items, nominally the front skid plate and the underbelly plate too...

Both good purchases. They both look stylish and help prevent the chassis getting hung up on obstacles. Looking forward to seeing them fitted!

Well I can't pretend this wasn't a bit nerve-racking:

As good as it's going to get -

The rear lenses were even harder, since it wasn't obvious which lense went where. Got there in the end though.

Next I'm going to give the bumpers a nice re-spray as I haven't done the greatest job on them, I'm also re-spraying the bonnet / front wings after a mishap with some glue.

The previous stickers also started lifting, so I've removed them (I have spares). This time around I'll use the hairdryer technique to get everything nice and stuck!

Bonnet has also gained a hood scoop - sorry, no pictures yet.

Today I re-sprayed the bumpers, bonnet (inc. scoop) and wings (to hide the damage done previously)

I then proceeded to drop the whole thing on my foot (cue lots of swearing) and chip the paint off of the hood scoop already. Nevermind!

Then came the long and sticky task of gluing the light lenses and buckets to the body. This was difficult and required the use of CA glue, which is runny like water. I stuck my fingers together more than once.

Cheers guys.

Going to hook up some LEDs for the sidelights, brakes and reverse. Un-decided about the indicators yet, I'm not sure that a vehicle driving on a dinosaur-inhabited island where there are no roads is going to bother indicating for anyone...!

Going to be a delay now though since most of these holes are for 3mm LEDs - mine are almost all 5mm. Bummer.

Been a while but now it's getting wetter and colder I've started to get back into my off road rcs a bit more.

This expensive roof rack was crying out for some accessories and hopefully my little additions all make sense for what is a maintenance vehicle in theory. The only thing I might change is the ladder, I really wanted the Yeah Racing aluminium one but it isn't looking cost effective to me right now!

Some of you will recognise the origin of some of these accessories too. I've also updated the numberplate front and rear to an authentic tag.

This looks great. The lenses came out nice!

- Love the box with the 10K Volt placard in it for fence work out by the predator cages. Sweet.

I've gone back to the green wheels and smaller tyres now, I was too scared to trim all the wheel arches to clear. I've also upgraded the springs so it doesn't sag, looks much better.

Really should get a proper update on this but currently I'm really unwell, so no pictures in the woods just now!

Feel better soon Chris!

Thanks, Definitely a case of Man Flu. I've felt like death the last 4 days but I think I'm getting the better of it at last. I even went to the nearest post office to send TC members their goods, I think that deserves some kind of medal of honour?!

You'll have to settle for a like instead!

I can't believe I missed this thread. It looks superb, great realism, I can see the appeal of these CC01 kits. Where did you get the lenses from? Great work and what a difference they make.

Ps. Agree with XV regards the green wheels, def look better to me.

Sooo...

Can't believe it's been 24 months since I started this project! In that time I've moved house and had 3 different jobs (don't ask)!

More importantly, the trilogy received a sequel in the form of Jurassic World.

I was never quite satisfied with how toy-like this Pajero looked, with its cartoon colour and matching wheels, comical tyres and glossy logos - it just didn't do it.

I toyed with the idea of a teardown and rebuild in civilian guise; but things got carried away a bit:

Colour change! I wanted a different blue for the stripe, but my can of metallic blue had gone off, dribbling from the nozzle rather than spraying. I had some darker metallic blue to hand and I actually quite like it now.

It stayed like this for some time before I opted to take the following route with it. Just need to re-wire the lights then I'm ready to go off to the woods (and get some better pictures!) I hope you like what I've done.
