Hi chaps.

Although not exactly a vintage question...

Has anyone here used Alumilite?

It appears to be a plastic stuff that can be used in a mold to make custom parts.

I was wondering if it would be suitable for wishbones on an RC car, possibly a runner.

Any insights helpful!

DIY cast items usually turn out pretty brittle and unsuitable for

high-stress components. Your best bet would be to either machine

them from billet metals or slabs of nylon.

funny....

I'm serious, can you buy Alumilite in the uK? I've asked around at a few places, and none seem to stock it, they all say it's a uS product

Im sorry but I have to disagree here. I have used alumalite white for parts like suspension components and they work well. Speciffically the steering blocks for a countach CS and lower front arms for an old Traxxas stadium truck. If you use the standard alumalite (cures light brown) you might find it too brittle. But the white is a bit more flexible and seems to hold up well. It does flex so you wont achieve the strength of a good reinforced plastic but it does work. I also found it to make an excelent repro roof for the rough rider as well as the front mask for the sand scorcher.

i too have used Alumilite and it holds up very well IF you get a fresh batch. I made a set of wheels for my E-Maxx, and if you don't think that's a high-stress application think again! they've held up beautifully. this stuff is very strong and if you spend some time on the mold it has a great finish.

i'm on the other side of the pond, though. i get mine at the LHS [:D]
