im looking for info on which speed controller is best suited to a srb,not sure weather to go for a standard one of an esc.whats everyone else running and how much of a kicking is my pocket gonna take

if your going to run it, get an esc. The stock MSC is fairly fragile and wastes battery power when running in low speed. Since you will be using a stock motor, you can buy any cheap esc which cost $30-$60. I use a futaba ESC in my Rough Rider

Basicly, a lower turn limit means a faster motor. The controller has a limit of how fast motor it can control, in this case 14 turns. That means you can mount motors with 14 turn or more. (Not that I recommend fitting a 14 turn to a SRB though.) There is a lot more about that in the forums or elsewhere, search option or Google for more info.

A block motor should be more than enough. Also, if you want to keep the motor mounting stock, you can only use older mabuchi 540's and black motors. As Theo said, the M-Tronics (also sold as Carson) are good, for a SS even a Eco 20 (20 turn limit) will do as you don't really want to go any lower than that! I am using a Speed 15 and I can't say a lot of bad things about it.

A speed controller is something that you can also use in a future car, so it's best to buy the best one you can afford if you plan to use it in future or other cars. [8D]

The novak ESCs aren't bad either. I have no problems from my Explorer II.

Just thought i'd add, if you intend running a modified motor in your SRB you'll have to do some butchering of the gear case to get it to fit, they were only designed with the standard 540 can in mind, modified motors have a larger can.

I run a mtronics eco27 in my Sand Scorcher which apart from this esc is completely standard, you don't need fast motors to enjoy SRB's just deep puddles!!! [:D]

Don't bother with a low turn motor in an SRB, they are very heavy cars, fit a torquey motor instead. Try a Kyosho mad science magnetic meyhem truck motor. This chucks out 350g of torque and in conjunction with the 70t spur on the SRB gives awesome acceleration. The motor is also quite cheap at £25'ish. To fit it (or any non standard motor) you'll need to drill holes where the 540 locating lugs currently are on the inside of the SRB gearcase. You'll then need to countersink these holes from the outside so that when you screw the motor in you can still fit the gear cover. IMPORTANT NOTE - You will need to remove the label from around the motor can or it will stick in the tight bore of the gearcase and you may damage the motor trying to extract it!!!!! Hope this helps, Ian.
