I dont really understand this ESC, this esc on paper said it can go low as 10.5T brushless YET it cannot do any lower than 25t brushed motor? I thought this is strange...

brushless motors are way more efficient than brushed motors , couple that with the way the fets are utilized , most likely all fets are in use forward or reverse in brushless mode, but, in brushed mode only 2/3 of the fets are for forward and 1/3 for reverse ,

for the record i cant get mine to run 10.5 when in a 2wd off road buggy on grass , it thermals after a couple of minutes , on road it is fine though ,

hope this helps a bit

If a 13.5 is the same as a silver can, your 13.5 must be absolutely stuffed

When BL came out , it was understood that the windings etc , ( 'alot of confusion then ' ) 13.5 bl = 27 turn brush ( 13.5 x 2 = 27 )

This is how it was compared as, at that time . Very early days , when they just coming out . But the bl system was more

powerful than what it was expected & things changed ( or more like some one complained ) something like that , I'm know

expert . But this is what was going around in the early days of brushless & they were fun days .

Those must have been very early days indeed! Even around 2006 when the group I raced with were talking about allowing brushless motors, 17.5t was being considered as a 27t brushed equivalent.

And I know from my test run last week that a modern budget 13.5t brushless setup makes a TZ look quite tame and languid in comparison...

I was thinking of putting a brushless motor on to mine as we'll . Will it be ok with 13.5 and is the better than the Tamiya Torque tuned motor in there at he moment.

I am running a 13.5t brushless on a TBLE-02 in my TT01 on 25/55 and it runs through a whole 3000mAh pack without thermalling. I reckon as long as it has adequate airflow it'll be fine.

And yes, the performance gain relative to a Torque Tuned will be very noticeable! :D

EDIT: My post is unnecessary, since all I wanted to say has been already mentioned by alfagta and XV pilot. :)

EDIT2: I would put the Torque Tuned somewhere inbetween the 2500 kV (16.5 T) and 2000 kV (17.5 T) brushless range.

The difficulty comparing motors is largely because KV ratings are barely ever quoted for brushed motors. The reason why you can't have wind-to-wind equivalence between brushless and brushed is mainly to do with the timing. We all know if you wind up the timing on a brushed motor it will go faster. But on a brushless system the ESC can have a lot more control of the timing of the electronic commutation. The first brushless system I used in a car was in 2000, I got the Modeltech system which was one of the very first on the market. The motor was actually made by Hacker and I still race it to this day with no loss in performance whatsoever. It's an 8 turn motor, but probably actually slower than a sensored 13.5 when used with a boost-equipped speed control, simply because of the effect that timing increase has.

I really like the TBLE-02S controllers. Currently I'm getting ready to test them on a couple of cars, one with an 11.5T motor. I bought a couple of micro fans dirt cheap on Ebay that can be plugged in to a spare receiver port, we'll see how mush difference that makes. My other TBLE ESC runs in my Wild One, with a 13.5 Speed Passion motor. This runs fine in off-road racing conditions with no fan. I'm happy - great value for such a cheap ESC.

The esc can run down to a 9.5t brushless motor for onroad. Offroad will be 13.5t thats a std for most ESC's. We run the 13.5's in our DT03's with this esc (and lipo) for 20 mins and its fine.

it does say in the manual that the 02s can take 10.5 off road too if the gearing is correct , , i would wager that it is on clay or hard dirt and not grass . with 13.5 and 19t pinion(equivalent of 19t, super stock in brushed terms) the 02s gets warm , the deciding factor is tyre type and surface being run on , with cell blocks on clay it will run 10.5 without much issue , 2wd on grass with spikes or pins 12t is the lowest mine would run a full pack , worth noting i run LiFepo4 , if you use lipo then things are gonna get hotter and motor wind will need further consideration .

:);)

Thinking of picking one of these up but baulked at the cost of a Tamiya BL motor @ £30.

Has anyone used one of these successfully with a different branded sensored BL motor?

Posted

yes any sensored motors of the allowed winds should work fine. Brushless is just the same as brushed all esc's and motors are interchangeable.
