Hey all, newbie on site

Quick intro, I'm Dave, 28 from Bolton, I'm a fully qualified mechanical engineer, ex military after 8 years of service.

I've recent rediscovered my love for RC cars. I've currently got...

A TB-01 which I've owned from new.

A Traxxas TMaxx which I've owned for 2 months

And I'm waiting delivery of a TGS with lots of spares.

My TB I've had since 2001. It came with a Focus body and has undergone several changes since new.

It currently rocks a battered 1999 Impreza body, with shadow chrome wheels in block rally tyres.

Alloy prop.

Alloy front suspension mount

Alloy front shockers

Alloy motor mount

11x2 Mtroniks Motor

Viper RV11 ESC

The Maxx is in a million bits and awaiting some spares for a full rebuild.

The TB has been rebuilt more times than I can count.

Pics of both cars to follow soon :-)

So you have yet to experience the wonder of a lipo/brushless combination?

I returned to RC after about 6 years out, whilst I was transfixed with messing about with real cars. It's amazing how far the tech has come in that time...

That was partly my issue with no really keeping up with RC tech.

I took a standard Astra Coupe and made it a show stopper, then sold that for a 300bhp Astra SRi Turbo, and sold that for an 270bhp Impreza.

Not helped that I spent 5 years in Germany with the Army, my TB took a back seat.

Lipos and Brushless is still all new to me.

Welcome!

You would be surprised how many people on here have a mechanical background and got full scale projects on the go :)

I was out of the game for 15 yrs, messing about with full scale cars, marriage, mortgage etc etc.

Biggest change is with the lipo and brushless compared to brushed and nicad's, it's like comparing a diesel engine of the late 70's to a modern diesel.Night and day.

Similar to me, I raced r/c cars while at school then joined the RAF as an airframe tech. Got back into it after leaving the airforce and back into racing onroad but quickly switched to offroad. As said lipo and brushless is just night and day over the older technology now, its just unreal.

Nice to see you have had some vauxhalls too ;) i still miss my astra vxr, was running stage 2 @ 296bhp and 356lb/ft, swit ched to an insignia sri turbo and now onto a corsa vxr blue edition. Needless to say now looking for a new car as its lacking room with a 1 year old son. Lol. :) possibly looking at an insignia vxr but the running costs is whats puting me off.

Anyways, as mentioned alot of people with mechanical backgrounds etc seem to get it r/c, i just like tinkering with things in general.

Wouldn't mind a Corsa VXR ;-). But having 4 kids.... It's not gonna happen, lol unless it's just a weekend toy. RCs seem to be filling my desire to tinker quite nicely. I've currently got a T-Maxx in like a million bits for a full chassis and axle strip and rebuild after I shredded the spur gear and slipper clutch.

I don't even know how I got into RC really. I had a factory built Tamiya when I was like 13 and then the following Xmas I think it was I got my TB-01.

My 1st Tamiya (no idea what it was) I'm using that Body on mine at the moment. It was proper pimped out. Me and my mate fitted it out with a Sony Walkman and car door speaker with an amplifier we built in our school electronics class and LED tail and head lights.
