I saw it at Goodwood FOS, it's quite impressive. Shame the civilian / road-going counterpart is so boring really! I bet it will encourage a special edition Peugeot with nothing more than some special alloys, paint and interior trim - Bleurgh!

But yes it looks like a full-scale toy. Are you sure it's RWD only? That seems mad.

From the article Pteppic posted:

Next year could be different, as this will be taking part. ‘This' is the Peugeot 2008 DKR. It has precisely nothing in common with the 2008 crossover. Well, aside from the fact that, although the bodywork suggests otherwise, neither is 4WD. That's right, Peugeot's Dakar entrant is rear-wheel drive. This isn't as unusual as it sounds, as in extreme enduro races, giving the front wheels both steering and driving duties can create reliability headaches. The less there is to go wrong, the better. And there's another reason to avoid 4WD, too.

Well... The RWD DT-02 isn't very adaptable to touring car or rally bodyshells, due to the large gearbox that has lots of overhang in the rear. It would also need a lot of narrowing. You'll also have problems with adapting front wheels.

Leaving out front driveshafts from 4WD touring car / rallye car chassis doesn't work that well either. Tried it out once, I won't try again.

I'd say neglect RWD and bring it on the 4WD DF-01, as done with the Porsche Cayenne. Makes more sense for a 1/10 scale rally car. I like the Peugeot's bodyshell style a lot.

Yep can confirm RWD, as it gives you a weight and ride height advantage in the Dakar series.

I'd wondered about DF-01 (my current Lancer is on it) but leaving out the prop shaft, but I box to GregM's knowledge about that not really working. But the front would look to fit very well.

I did wonder what sort of ride height could be had on an M-06... (with longer suspension arms obviously.

Worryingly, I think JennyMo might be onto something with a WR-02! Wonder if the 1:1 will pull wheelies?

I'm currently gathering parts to make a RWD TA02 for a GT2 shell...

Same could be done with the (closely related) DF-01.

But different from Greg's approach, I'll be leaving in the front drivetrain (even though it's not propelled).

Just won't be using the main driveshaft and a few of the then unneeded gears.

It would make an excellent shell by the way. B)

Any of the touring car 4x4 chassis's would be appropriate and just leave out the propshaft to the front axles or their dogbones/universals. I did this with my TL01 based Baja Bug and it's surprisingly planted. You can then of course choose to put everything back to run it 4x4.

Duh! - what about a WR-02 chassis!

(joking)

Actually, not joking - it would be hysterical!

I will always agree that stage-rally, rally-raid, and baja vehicles would look hilarious on a WR-02 :P

But could Tamiya develop a rear-wheel drive adaptation of the CC-01? If the company ever released a car with this bodyshell, I doubt they would go through the effort to create a dedicated 2WD platform like that - no matter to most but the fervent enthusiasts, though.

I don't like it. The front looks a cartoon character from somewhere, which i have seen. The head lights are like eyes and the radiator openning is the month of a puffer fish. The seperation of the c piller is like copying from Ferrari 599 or the BMW i8. The French may have good food and wine, but car design is still a bit behind or to my liking.

As for body design by Tamiya without copying a real 1:1? Tamiya cannot make their own body design for some reason while other rc company can such as axial, cross ... can

There's no need for development, just drop the front dogbones and diff and you've got a RWD CC01.

Also, and fundamentally - the 2WD class allows for much taller tyres (and thus ground clearance, plus deeper side walls), and also allows remote on-the-fly air inflation/deflation unlike the 4WD class...

That said, it is a huge gamble running 2WD in Dakar these days since no-one has won the event outright in a 2WD vehicle since Jean Louis Schlesser in 1999/2000 - which was back in Africa then of course, and in a lot more sand.

The utter dominance of VW and more recently 'Mini' (and I put that word in inverted commas deliberately) in the more varied terrain of South America using 4WD makes me wonder if ultimately this is the right decision for Peugeot... but it's going to be fun finding out in a few months time!

As for wheelies, if anyone can Cyril Despres can! - although I fear (watching the videos of the car in testing), that it is less being up on the rear two wheels, rather the two wheels on either side the team need to worry about - it looks very tall and spindly being that high on such a relatively short and narrow wheelbase... Hmmmmm... just like a WR-02 in fact!
