Not to be a pain, but armor clad and zombie apocalypse are awful close to the same thing. Or is armor clad supposed to be more of a military theme?

My take on "themes" is it's open to whatever your own interpretation. On another forum we used to do photo competitions, one month the subject was "Long Exposure" - most people took photos of things in the dark but some people used their imagination and took photos of things that had been left outside for ages.

Armor Clad could be a military vehicle, it could be a post-apocalyptic car, or you could do something really bold and make a delivery van for an army surplus shop :D

Me too. So members take note: Do not click view results until you have cast your vote (I wasn't going to vote anyway as I may not take part if the theme isnt to my taste).

There it is - voter apathy in a nutshell! ;o)

Surely one more vote for your particular category increases the chance of it actually being chosen and therefore becoming the theme you'd like to take part in?!

At the same time of course I'm sure no-one is insisting anyone take part of they don't like the final category - this is only for fun after all...

Perhaps on option is to treat these as preliminaries, and if there are two themes that are close/neck and neck, is to put it to a second vote to decide the overall winner?

I agree - I think this is the perfect explanation - I don't think anyone is necessarily expecting to see a scale replica of a real TV/movie vehicle (as a literal translation... cue a dozen Herbie Sand Scorchers ;o)

I'd see it more as a using an instantly recognisable paint job on an alternative shape vehicle - think the Mystery Machine flowers and stripes on a Hornet rather than a Lunchbox perhaps? - or an A-team themed Wild One for example? (although that in itself if a bit obvious being black and red already).

Mind you, here's one I'm going to throw out there for free to someone - how about a Low-rider Pumpkin with a missing hood, a crane on the back painted up like Mater from Cars?

That way you've got On-screen theme / Working vehicle / Low-rider / movie 'Hero' and Zombie Apocalypse all in one ;o)

Ultimately though, I don't think it's essential to follow any theme to the letter - just as long as the result is obviously connected to the chosen theme in some way?

Actually, rescind that... I'm going out to buy a Low-rider Pumpkin this week... this one is MINE!

Personally when thinking about Armour Clad I initially image Boadica's body armour and chariot... Probably not suitable for this forum :)

You could make that work with a Wild Wendy :)

Dec - Jan timeline sounds good - gives everybody plenty of time (and allows those of us who get booked up with family events over the holidays a chance to catch up during more relaxed times - i.e. when we're still at work :) )

Indeed. Also allows us to get whatever deals we can in January sales.

I'm really liking the way you folks are thinking. Cause I've long had a fascination with juxtaposed vehicles (Lunchbox done as a General Lee)

the gears be turnin.

As often happens when the Ebola crisis comes on the news at work, conversation once again turned to the looming zombie apocalypse, and how best to survive it.

Today's debate was about tactics and vehicles, and the pros and cons of different approaches.

Would you be best off in the traditional slow and lumbering heavily-armoured vehicle that could keep its occupants safe from all comers? Or would a fast and nimble FAV-style ride be better, that could out-maneuver the zombie hordes while allowing its occupants quick exit and entry to facilitate easy looting of corner shops? Or would it be better to go for a very fast and fully-enclosed sportscar, fit it with minimal mods that wouldn't compromise performance, and try to make a run for an unpopulated/uninfected area?

This got me thinking that the Zombie Apocalypse theme could be interpreted in many ways, and would give a lot of freedom to participants if it were chosen as a build-off theme.

If a zombie apocalypse was to happen, I'd think your best best would be a bicycle and a baseball bat or machete.

How long would fuel exist? How long would guns be usable?

We had the weapons debate too, and came to the concensus that if you were to pick a single weapon for a zombie apocalypse, a hunting bow would be a good choice as it is silent, usable from a distance, ammo can be reused or even made from scavenged items, and it could be used as a melee weapon if need be.

As for fuel, long-range tanks would be a good addition to the vehicle, but in our imagined scenario, fuel reserves would last a good while due to the significantly reduced number of surviving people making use of them. Hopefully they would last long enough to deal with the zombie menace and start rebuilding a society based on renewable energy.

I voted Lowride (but thats cos I have one in the box ready to start on) but I like the idea of theme.

Zombie \ Armour seems like a good combo and I would like to have a crack at that and it would keep me busy on those cold winter nights.

I have a suitable body for a zombie apocolypse project but need a runner CC01 chassis to mount it on - and I have no money left :(

I'll have to think of something else...
