Am going lipo, but am unsure what products? Am considering the following items; Charger- Core RC UAC50 or Dynamite Prophet Sport Plus. Batteries- Black Magic 7.4 4000/35C or Voltz 7.4 3000/30C.

What you guys think?

Cheers

Hi there, thought someone would have jumped in before now, the Lipo subject comes up so much its unreal, but great to see Rc'ers out there moving with the times and wanting to get more runtime and less maintenance and lets be fair lipo's are safe if used and stored correctly.

The Core Rc UAC50 looks a great choice, its from a brand that we all know and specs look good.

-Max Discharging Power: 5Watts
-Charge current range: 0.1-6A
-Discharge current range: 0.1-1A
-Nicd/NiMH Battery Cell Count: 1-15Cell
-LiPo/Li-Fe/Lilon Cell Count: 1-6Cell
-Pb Battery Voltage: 2-20V

-Display: 16*2 character blue backlit display
-Dimension: 135mm X 112mm X 61mm

-UK 3 Pin plug lead for 240v

the Dynamite Prophet Sport Plus is a little lower spec'd but nothing major.

  • User selectable 0.1A-5A charge rate
  • Suitable for 1-6S LiPo and 4-12 NiMH cells

  • 300mAh current drain for cell balancing
  • Easy to use push button operation and cell chemistry selection with easy to read LED indictors
  • High Current EC3 Connector included
  • Solid State reverse polarity and current overload, short circuit and thermal protection
  • Includes 2-6S JST-XH balance board

For your batteries you've looked at, the Black Magic is a semi hard case and seems a little square, the Votz on the other hand is a hard rounded pack.

Things you need to look at is what vehicles there going in, and will they fit, next is what power systems your running or intend to run in the future, the 4000mah 35 pack will discharge at a constant 140amps, the 3000mah 30c pack will discharge at a constant 90amps. so unless your running silly brushless systems these should be more than upto the job.

Give us a little more info on the cars your running, also don't forget you will need to use an esc with lipo cut-off built in or a stand alone lipo alarm/cutoff to stop yourself over discharging your new packs.

Big thanks 'Tamiya monkey' (Mark)

Its for a Traxxas Slash 2wd.

Fed up of breaking my Tamiyas and am always wishing they'd go faster, so after careful consideration I knew the Traxxas Slash was going to provide the fun and buzz I'm looking for. Also they look very scale and that is also one if the things about this hobby I love... realism.

I plan to use the lipos to run some of my Tamiya runners too, once I've upgraded the ESC of course. Also I'll be going brushless in the Traxxas Slash after a year or so; just want my charger and batteries future proof so I buy once.

Cheers :)

Hi James, the batteries should be more than up to the job of powering your slash when you upgrade as long you don't go crazy, I had a 8.5t brushless mated with a 60amp esc, and that was plenty fast enough, the Traxxas Slash is a great truck, very durable, in fact almost indestructible.

You will not be disappointed.

Best place I have found round-case LiPos for my Tamiya runners has been http://www.vapextech.co.uk/

Incredibly good value for money. Only problem is the position of the power cables / balance lead on some of the batteries has meant some modifications are required to run them in my Tamiyas, but it's a small price to pay.
