Hey guys - well figured out a small runner build - my 2nd Tamiya Beetle - this time a Blitzer - will be a mostly box art runner.. Body is for sure going to be box art with some real decals added - really only deviation will be 2.2" re-re Wild One wheels with modern Pro-Line buggy tires. Hopefully it won't look to bad lol (wide with smaller tires)- I could mount it on my DT-02 but I want something with ground clearance..

Inspiration for this comes from a thread on here from 2006 were a member put a beetle body on a Tamiya Falcon - since those are hard to come by in decent shape I figured I'd just copy the wheels and run it - maybe later on find different arms to pull the wheels closer to the body but til then the kit will be fine think - post number 4 in this thread is the what I'm talking about

http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=28759

I ordered the wheels, bearing kit, and CRP adapters off eBay - and got everything else though Omnimodels..

Blitzer kit

Arrma 15t lipo ESC (SCT esc 2S lipo safe and only $25)

HPI 15T Firebolt motor

Venom 3200mah 20C lipo battery

Robinson Racing 13t hardened steel pinion

Pro-line wedge squared 2wd buggy front tires

Pro-line Bow-tie 2wd/4wd buggy rear tires

Wild One front and rear wheels

CRP rear wheel adapters

Traxxas rubber sealed 5x11 bearings

Red Cat 2.4 radio

Team Associated servo (hopefully it doesn't ask to much of the Red Cat radio LOL)

Planning on adding adjustable camber/toe links, and probably make a interior for it in the fashion I made my old SRB's interior

i would brace the tops of the damper mounts front and rear as they tend to crack . A wheelie bar might also be a good idea lol. i run a 13T 4370KV brushless in mine on 2S lipo . The gearbox can easily take the power . Its a bit of a handful to drive and best suited to a nice flat beach but in terms of bang for your buck excellent fun .

Sweet! I just decided to go brushless in my on road slash build SO I'm upgrading to the XL5/Titan 12t from that in to this. Should go pretty good I think considering it'll get a stock Slash going 20mph which is more than I need in a basher

it should go well on the Titan 12t but if you really want it to fly go brushless. i've never actually timed mine but it outruns many of the nitro guys on a local playing field lol . 20 - 30 yard standing wheelies are great fun too

Welp got most the basic chassis assembled (rear gear box/ suspension, front suspnsion, all attached to chassis tub) - got a few pics BUT decided today to finish one project before starting another SO I'm going to finish my on road slash build first (just front hubs, and the body left)

Then I'll post up the pics and start back into this!, then my new to me Traxxas Jato 3.3 rebuild..

Well this build took a for the better turn I feel LOL I was bored with my Kyosho Scorpion and didn't want to invest in a new body to get it correct SO - I mounted the Blitzer body on it!

I was thinking the very same thing :D The more I see that Kyosho Beetle body the more I hate how square it is. Can't beat Tamiya for a Baja Beetle look IMO.

Looks better than the Kyosho Beetle ;)

+1

Are Kyosho re-releasing their Beetle just to show how much nicer the Sand Scorcher is?

MY THOUGHTS
its the shape of the body i dont like . Somehow the proportions just look wrong .The roof is too tall and the top line of the doors is all wrong . I would maybe replace it with a Kamtec one .

Funny how we think alike . Kyosho Beetle is just ugly . Blitzer body totally transforms the looks

Only thing I don't like about this swap is the body has to be up high for the buggies longer than SRB's suspension travel - the rear at full compression is about 1/8" from the fender - other than that -

I used 4" Duratrax body post and the stock rear Blitzer mounts screwed to the stock roll bar, held with electrical wire clamps and heat shrink.. When I get back this build I'll post some pics!

I've spent to much lately and bought a Traxxas Jato from my cousin to help him out with a kid on the way - I am currently cleaning that up to resell -

Monster Beetle body is the best looking rc body ever.

The Monster Beetle body is actually a rather sad departure of what was the most beautiful body to ever grace an RC chassis, the original Sand Scorcher.

In 1986 somebody at TAMIYA inc thought it would be a good idea to destroy the original cast to make the infamous Monster Beetle body. Man, that must really be one of the saddests days ever in the history of Tamiya. Now don't get me wrong, I do love the Monster Beetle, and I own a nice example, but that freaking car just can not hold a candle to what the original 1979 VW Baja Beetle body was like, with full fenders, mirrors, door handles, and such.

Think I need to get me a bottle of gin, now. That RC story is way too hard to bear. :(

Well, I came into rc after that.

No problem, mate. :) I jokingly went overboard on the subject. By the time I became interested in RC I remember droolin' over the Monster Beetle at our LHS. And I actually knew about the Sand Scorcher as "some funky VW bug in the Tamiya RC guide books". ;)

When I talked my mom into getting me an rc, there were three at the lhs. Clodbuster, Blackfoot, and Monster Beetle.

Clod was too expensive

I wasn't a Ford guy

My family had been into VWs since 1962

Small update - got the body started on - glued the sunroof, tail lights, and rear license plate light on. Then went to the iconic BB decals - got those on as well - gotta find the sand Scorcher build over on Tamiya USA to get the interior template and make a interior for it - then I think it will be done besides a few decals (the body). I bought a repro Kyosho beetle chassis top cover and am still waiting on that- will paint it and the yellow tub black.
