And make it more like this?

Not sure if anyone has done this yet, but this idea has been bouncing around my head for about a year now, and it wants to get out :D Not necessarily a 6x6, though that would be über cool. I thought maybe hi-lift axles front and rear to give it 4 wheel drive, some blocks or whatever else needed to give it some height, a proper high turn motor, and suitable wheels/tires and it should be possible. I know the 1850L does come with a 3 speed tranny, but it's 2 wheel drive, so I'd say a hi-lift tranny would be necessary as well.

Thoughts/comments would be appreciated :)

Hi ,

i dont see why not , although i think it may get pretty costly and running larger wheels and much more lift will present many issues during the build (drive shaft angles etc ) , not sure how much of the merc would be left after the conversion , perhaps a full scratch build using after market axles ,chassis rails etc may end up being more cost effective , a quick hunt around the web will turn up many such builds and all the associated issues and work arounds,

i am pretty sure there is a thread on rc crawler site that had one built using txt axles in a 6wd config that worked out at a reasonable price , rc4wd spotted the market for such toys and produced an absolute beauty with a price to match ,

good luck and have fun ;)

If you really want it to be a fast off-roader that can handle itself I think you'd be better off picking a decent off-road chassis and fitting the cab on bits around that.

Not looking for a fast off roader Crispy, just was interested in taking a big rig chassis and making it off road capable, making something it never was intended to do. I'd think being so tall it wouldn't be something good for higher speeds. Maybe something custom like alfagta mentioned, but then clicking on the link that Mokei Kagaku provided shows exactly what I'd like, though I was thinking more on the plastic side. Great food for thought gents...thank you.

If you think about it, the High Lift chassis is pretty much what you're describing. The frame rails are the same dimensions and spacing (width-wise) so the 1850L cab shouldn't be too difficult to retrofit... If you need 6x6, you could swap in some 1/14 truck axles and you're there.

Ahem .... B)
6x6, high lift axles, king hauler gearbox , 4274 brushless motor....

Bit mad on 3S LiPo and brushless:

Bit more sedate with a 540 and 9.6V NiMh

6x6 through walking beams rather than an extra axle

and a modified king hauler box...

I'm now thinking about replacing the rear axle with an RC4wd item that has a servo selectable diff lock :)

In all seriousness, if you are looking to off-road a 1/14 truck, bear in mind that the axles are narrower than the high lift axles, so if you tried to fit a 1/14 shell on a high lift the wheels will be well stuck out. Also 6x6 walking beams gives great articulation and grip on basic leaf spring suspension.
