Iconic Meets

Recommended Posts

I really owt to make the effort and attend one of these - one of them is on more doorstep so no excuse and the Robin Hood raceway looks ace. Off to explore BRCA membership (last time I was a member of that was 1990 !!!!)

I'm going to join the brca. I've been watching the videos and looks a good laugh. Not raced for a few years now. I'll keep an eye out on this thread for the updates. I can see my campervan getting some use !

Simon, A lot of the TC old boys are on Iconic and come to the meets so you'd be in familiar company. BRCA does run from Dec to Dec though so if you pay £17 now you'll only benefit from a couple of meets. A reminder that RC Model Shop Direct and Snetterton Park meets do not require BRCA as both places have their own insurance.

It would be great to see you along to the meets. Drop me an email if you like and I can give you some more info. Our meets are by no means restricted to Iconic Members and the clubs take all of the fees for the day, which are a total bargain!

John

If you want to participate in Revival 2016 and our Iconic Meets throughout next year, you will need a BRCA Licence, which is your insurance.

If you already have a licence, you can renew now and the price is just £17 to the end of 2016 which is a bargain.

The BRCA have a new website and you have to re-register your details. The old ones don't work.

If you're renewing, you just need your existing BRCA number and then they sort it all out for you.

This does sound great fun, my only concern is meeting up with a bunch of folks I've never met before! What sort of age ranges are there at iconic meets? I've tried convincing a mate to join me but he's not really keen.

I've joined the Facebook group and will try to gather the courage to come along in 2016!

Chris, they are very relaxing days with like-minded people who spend as much time chatting by the track as they do on it. First time around, come and find me and I'll introduce you to a few people. I see you're well into the thousands of posts on here. There are many past and present TC members who frequent the meets so you'd probably be already acquainted with more chaps than you think.

The Revival and the Iconic Cup are full on race days. Iconic Meets are open track days with no formal racing.

Dates for the 2016 Iconic Meets will start coming out in January.

Cheers. John

Chris - nothing to worry about - I have attended all the meets on my own and everyone is friendly, approachable and of the same mind - in fact its great when you start talking to people and you realise that there are plenty of other people who love RC (and not necessarily competitively) as much as you do :-)

Another vote on "nothing to worry about" - my first Iconic meet was at Snetterton back in April, after a 5 hour drive (Friday traffic!) and a lonely night on a campsite, I turned up to a sodden track and introduced myself to JWeston, after a short while I started chatting to a few other like-minded RC enthusiasts and even bumped into some guys I know from my local track.

Again I drove 4 hours to the Revival, I hadn't met anyone there apart from JWeston, who I'd only briefly spoken to at Snet, arriving late on Saturday didn't help as everyone was cold and tired but the sun came out on Sunday morning and before long everyone was getting ready to race. It's impossible to be lonely on race days, there are always trades, people looking for spares and tools, people asking for (or offering) setup advice, you'll get chatting to random people while standing on the stage for your race and of course you'll talk to the track steward and other staff when you book in and do the drivers' briefing.

I went to August meet, only knew a few people, but during the morning downpour I lifted the tailgate on my camper and soon had 6 people standing under it sheltering from the rain and talking nonsense about all manner of crazy things, from the previous night's dodgy curry to a Lunchbox with FX10 suspension to a motorcycle jacket that's 20 years old and still waterproof.

For the record, I have social anxiety issues - I'm terrible at talking to strangers and find any kind of social gathering difficult, but I really love the Iconic meets, I've never been on my own for long and I'd happily drive across the country even knowing I won't know anyone there.

Age range, as said, is generally 30 years and up, some attendees bring their kids with them which only adds to the fun, and because they mostly take place on private tracks you don't get random kids turning up asking how fast it goes and if they can have a play :)

Iconic Cup!! ... just gave me a reason to get a TT-01... It should arrive on Friday :)

For 4 years I've been wanting to make an Iconic event...maybe 2016 will be the year I make it to one hahaha. At least I now have all the RC cars to make any event :)

That day was sooo wet!! A total washout apart from the banter and the photos!

That sounds absolutely awesome - many years ago we talked about doing a "team build" at the local indoor track but never got around to it. I'll start hunting out a team and make sure that weekend goes in the calendar on a "do not disturb" basis :D

Love that you are allowing the 15 Turn Brushed HPI Firebolt motor...it's my fav motor, I usually run all HPI electronics, would love to see the 21 turn HPI Saturn be allowed at other events such as the DT-02 challenge, it's a great and very cost effective motor :)

>Kaylon< you can use the 15 turn Firebolt in mod class, anything up to and including a 19 turn spec is permitted in the mod class.

The Saturn however will never be permitted in the stock class as it is not a Tamiya motor !
