Has anybody seen or made a XC/CC chassis Unimog low rider?

Recommended Posts

Hello Everybody!

Tamiya made some years ago the 53187 Cross Country 4WD Low Ride Conversion kit,

which could be used on the XC/CC -chassis.

If I'm not entirely wrong, the 58152 Isuzu Mu had this set in the kit included.

The conversion kit is fairly difficult to find nowadays, but if it would be combined with the 58457 Unimog,

what would the combination look like?

If anyone has a picture to post, I would apperciate it. :)

The reason for asking this, is the possibility of making something similar to one of the racers in

Nintendo's R.C. Pro-Am http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rc_pro_am

Best regards

That's correct.

tyres might be the only issue unless there are some on another vehicle that suit.

The tyres and inserts in the Lowrider kit are regular TGX radial tires; # 50563, which means that also TGX Rallyblock tires and TGX slicks fit the Lowrider wheels. The RC Boy's series front slicks are also TGX tyres, which is now probably the easiest way of getting TGX tyres.

As for chassis, there are other chassises than the CC-01 that would be suitable for a lowrider. The rear arches on the Unimog body are separate parts, so though the "official" wheelbase is 242mm, the wheelbase can be changed for a suitable chassis with little effort. I've put aside a RC Boy's chassis and a Unimog body for this purpose. Any of the short wheelbase Tamiya touring chassises would be suitable too.

I've never tried to fit them on a regular TGX wheel, but the #50761 RC Boys' front tires are a bit narrower than standard TGX tires. The wheels on the 1/8 Mini Cooper are the same size as the RC Boys' fronts.

Thank you for all the responses

So hunting parts with spare parts numbers is probably the best way

to obtain the low ride parts set.

And as TGX tyres have also slicks, that might be the way to go

for the "R.C. Pro-Am"-version.

But as I'm still looking for a photo, let me edit my request a little:

If there is a person with both 58152 Isuzu Mu and a Unimog body,

could he/she put the Unimog body on the Isuzu chassis and take a picture,

please. :)

Why I'm asking for this, is the fact, that I haven't yet bought a CC-01 Unimog

and if the picture of the request above looks too strange, then I may have to re-think

the way to go with this project.

The problem with photoshopping before shopping for parts

would be in how the Unimog body sits on the chassis with

low ride wheels.

So in order to be precise with the picture one would need access

to correct low ride XC/CC-chassis and a Unimog body.

And if you have access to both, why not take a picture.

I'm looking for information on the fit in advance in order to avoid

small problems in advance like the chassis and body fit with "see-thru between"

in DT-02 chassis Sand Rover re-release.

And also to save a little money by avoiding costly fundamental (read: chassis)

mistakes.

i'am fair sure that if you can track down the XC low rider chassis conversion that this will work . As the wheelbase on the XC is easily adjustable any minor changes will be easy to make .

There is a new CC-01 Lowering Kit in the pipeline from Tamiya too, but I don't yet know what the kit contains:

This sounds interesting. Definitely something to check out first, before hunting for other sets/parts. Thank you for the info, Mokei.

P.s. Did you notice the pictures of old Tamiya Catalogues in the topic:

any knowledge yet as to what the Sandshaker is about Mokei ?

No, not yet. My pure guess is that it's in the style of the TA02T and XV01T with one of the existent truck bodies reused with a new livery and stickers.

Hello Disco!

I somehow missed your reply the last time I browsed, but noticed it today.

So if I understood correctly your conversion kit is otherwise complete,

but you have used the tyres for your TGX. Did you also use the wheels

and inserts?

What would be the best way to contact you? PM?

Sorting through a box of Tamiya spares in my attic just now & came across a NIB 53187 Cross Country 4WD Low Ride Conversion Kit.

Let me know if interested.

I've still got the leftover wheels from converting a second hand Mu from lowrider to XC (if you want them - the only other thing I changed was dampers)

However, if it's the R/C Pro Am look you're going for, I've seen someone shorten a unimog body to fit on a wild willy chassis for that zippy swb action of the game.

Hi!

I'm currently in middle of making trades for Low rider sets/parts with wheels,

so I think, that I will not need any additional wheels for my project.

As the new low rider set has also been presented at Nuremberg Toy Fair,

I will have that as a backup/alternate plan for the set/parts

I think the XC/CC low rider Unimog will be just the first try at R/C Pro-Am look

and I'll try to improve on it later. So it's going to be in a sense the mk.1.

Slicks might be a good bet for getting the feel of control right like in the game :D

But thank you for the kind offer!

I haven't read all the replies/suggestions, but just put some tubing inside the shocks to prevent tge piston to go all the way down and i think the street rover wheels and tire will further lower the chassis and offer less tilt because of the tire low profile.

I did it with my SCX10? by axial just by putting tubing inside the shocks piston, kept the standard wheels and tires, the whole truck now looks like a regular truck and looks wider, and won't tip over as easy.
