Thought I would kick this off with the first Winter Build Off 2014 Build - which will hopefully be finished in January in accordance with the rules!

The selected category this year is TV & Film - pretty open on how you interperet it too. I have cheated a little - I've picked a project I was going to do regardless but pulled the plug on (and even sold the chassis last year).

Without droning on, my theme is the TV series (based on the graphic novels) The Walking Dead

It's 'inspired by' rather than directly taken from the series, consisting of-

Tamiya King Blackfoot bodyshell

CC01 chassis

Hilux interior

And all sorts of little scale additions I've been gathering for months.

Here it was last year before I (stupidly) sold the chassis on-

Stay tuned for the next update...

I'll look forward to seeing this one progress - I've also got a KBF body on a CC01 that I've been working on for about 6 months now. Those old Ford bodies really lend themselves to aggressive apocalypse styling, IMO :)

My CC01 chassis turned up today, so I'll have to assemble that first and foremost.

I'm trying to decide how to paint this. The KBF body comes moulded in black as you will know, which looks quite good. I have a tin of Nato green I was going to use and combine it with some rust effect, but I'm not sure how suited my skills are for that.

It also sports a full bull bar, rubber wheel arches (serious trimming required) a full interior and a dog.

I was going to do a drop-bed conversion but found that I could actually re-locate the battery and use the flatbed section as a battery door instead, which conceals a lot more of the CC01 chassis tub.

And lights. Everything must have lights!

Indeed :)

Today I assembled the CC01, which will be stock for now with the exception of full bearings. It's bad that I've already completed this stage in just 1.5 hours, all it needs is shocks and it's done...

I've also pinched the Pajero bull bar because I was never 100% happy with it and think it deserves a good battering on the front of this truck. It's already flaked some of it's paint and has genuine rust underneath! At least it looks good. I might lose the winch., what do you guys think?

I have some ideas for barbed wire I found on scale4x4

Tonight I did a lot of cutting. The welds on these roof racks are incredibly weak and sadly mine has snapped on one of the legs just through tightening the nut on gently. Bummer.

Hilux interior etc all trimmed and fitted. Will need to relocate the steering servo for this to work but I have plans for that already. There's gonna be some serious arch-trimming on this for the 90mm tyres to clear, if only 1.55 wheels and tyres were more cost-effective :(

Araldite the snapped weld and then make some scale Duct tape to wrap it with. 1/10 scale running repairs as seen on any Zombie Masher :D

It's looking very good. Have you got the guts to shatter the windscreen? Or maybe a few discreet bullet holes?

Speaking of guts I'm waiting to see what 'bits' are going to be hanging off the bull bars.

My idea had we been doing zombie officially was to build an anti zombie lunchbox that was then taken by the zombies themselves. Would fit the driving characteristics of the 'Box.

Built up the wheels at the weekend (Gmade 1.9s) and it's gonna take a lot of trimming to get these to work. The smallest tyre I could find (90mm) without using the stock 'block' tyres which have no grip.

Next up: Dremel time

I could, but then the bull-bars won't work. See they're fixed to the 'brick' part of the chassis which is often removed. The body sits nice and low to the chassis and conceals it from view nicely which looks good, so I don't want to lift it if I can help it.

Maybe go with 1.5 wheels and tires. Would certainly keep you from hacking too much off the body. Keep in mind that you could also hack the body and get some mean looking fender flares from RC4WD or Axial.

I used 1.55 wheels and tyres on my CC01 Blackfoot, I still had to go with quite a big body lift with get away with not hacking the arches, especially as I wanted full stock articulation and steering without rubbing. I cut my brick and fitted a home-made skid plate.

Here's a few pics on the long-ignored build thread, to give you an idea of how it could look:

Fender flares are also a neat idea. Here's my post-apocalyptic Blackfoot with flares made from styrene sheet (heated with a cigarrette lighter and bent for extra dented realism :D )

1.55 wheels and tyres are just too expensive for me sadly, but that link does look amazing. I want something relatively low-cost so I won't feel bad about thrashing it around the garden at pace!

Tonight I cracked out the dremel. Much fun was had! It's very accurate stuff this you know...

LOL dont matter - rubber will cover any ' bodge job ' .

I'm trying to find some suitable wire mesh to go over the windows which isn't too fine so I can still see into the cockpit.

More trimming tonight and filled some of the unwanted holes in the body.

NATO green? Still can't decide if it will look right...
