Looks great! I remember that cartoon too! :)

A mate of mine had a Manx buggy when we were late teens, we thought it was cool but it was about 20 years too late to be really cool.

Just one suggestion, if you can see if you can come up with big wheels at the back and small wheels at the front. I think it will add a lot to the realism, also loose the cowboy hat for the driver - zoinks!! :D

best of luck with the project and looking forward to seeing this one come together.

Neat idea - I don't remember that cartoon, but I'd probably have loved it. Will look forward to seeing how this one progresses :)

Ha ! Speed Buggy was my alternative idea after the Apocalypse theme lost. Loved that cartoon as a kid. I found a Speed Buggy soft toy in a Warners Bros shop about 20 years ago and he's sat on my 1:1 dashboard ever since.

Glad I dropped out now. I wouldn't have done it justice. Looking forward to this a lot. How are you going to make him paw the ground and make the spluttery engine noises ? ;)

In all my 35 years I have never even heard of this cartoon. That being said I think the exhaust noises and build theme are awesome. No off to watch some Speed Buggy :)

My lunchbox in first grade (1975-1976) was Speed Buggy.

For those unfamiliar, think Scooby Doo with a talking dune buggy instead of a dog. And racing instead of monster hunting

Ha ha! - what a great idea!

I agree with Quandry - it really would work on a Farm King rolling chassis that has the larger rear wheels already!

I think you could successfully chop a Sand Rover shell (something I've been thinking about, but not for this winter build) to fit on a WR-02, but as you say, there is quite a lot of work, not to mention money involved in building something like that...

As a suggestion, along with the differing wheel sizes, rather than just a single driver how about trying to source some Scoobydoo figures to fit inside?

Looking forward to seeing the result!

Scoobydoo figures are readily available and would work well in this IMO . Driver is almost identical to Shaggy , Fred is like the other guy and the woman is Daphney ? Farm King chassis has to be the one to use . Correct gearing for the oversize rears and it will hopefully still wheelie lol

That would get my vote for sure!

I'd love to see this a reality... if you want any help shortening a Sand Rover body Quandry, I'd be happy to! ;o)

Thanks for all the reply's and suggestions :)

I really would love to do a body chop and I think I will next year for sure as it gives me another reason to get a farm king hehehe. As far as drivers go I've looked into action figures but most I can find are only 5" figures which are a little small so..... what I'm doing is making at least the main driver myself, this is not a mod...more of a complete figure sculpt.

Sculpting and then printing out the driver will allow me to make him about 10" tall. This will make the buggy itself look smaller and hopefully more in line with the actual Speed buggy :)

I'm going to try my 3D printer first...but it's a home made rig and will require a bit of finishing...still will be fun to make my own Tinker (that's the driver of Speed Buggy) :)

Yes, I think you're right. They're not expensive, and I love their detail!

Max you can pick them up cheap . parts cars go for $20- $30

I thought the Cox buggy (titter :D) matched the proportions of the Speed Buggy very well. That last one seemed a little flat to my eye.

The problem with the Cox is that their short ( lol) . The body proportions are spot on but it may not be easy to get it to fit a chassis without quite a bit of work

I found a Speed Buggy soft toy in a Warners Bros shop about 20 years ago and he's sat on my 1:1 dashboard ever since.

He's looking a little faded now but then he has done over 200,000 miles. And he's still smiling. B)

Thanks for all the suggestions

I'd feel soooo bad cutting up a vintage toy/rc for this project I think I'll stick to paint job and new driver hehehe...

I'll do more adventurous projects once I have my pit room set up.

Update soon...

Good to see some real effort going into the driver - call it a "paint job and new driver" if you will but making a new 3D model is what I call commitment :D
